Default Shoulder surgery

Anyone here have shoulder surgery? I need it, eventually. Too many years of baseball. Getting progressively worse, as the darn thing locks up on me, at times.

I know recovery is a long process. And sometimes it doesn't really work out that well. Wondering how much longer should live with pain.

I injured my left shoulder just stretching in cockpit seat. Not bad at first. Got worse and worse until I could not even lift it to activate switches on the overhead.

Scans revealed tears (but it was not rotator cuff). Did physical therapy. Painful but gutted it out. Lots of time. Incremental improvement. After several months I said screw it and bid a 2 day layover in Singapore. Chinatown. Found a place specializing in accidents/sports injuries. $35. They worked on it for 3 hours. Manipulation. Acupuncture (first time) and cupping. Was told to wait 24 hours with no meds.

Next day I had full range of motion and still do.

Thanks! Worth a try. Pain gets bad sometimes... I actually lose any grip strength in that arm. Not a good sign, I know.

It wasn't baseball, but SOFTBALL of all things. Summer City Leagues. Throwing that big thing from the outfield really tore up my arm. Been unable to serve tennis, for a few years, now. Getting old is a beetch.

I believe Lainey had it done. She's on the road right now but I'll let her know on Facebook that you're asking about this.

Yep...here's a thread about it.

Living with pain is not good...it will probably only get worse and so will your problem. So I'd say get something done sooner rather than later.

Please allow me to go on record as saying that getting old sucks.
We don't realize when we teenagers and young adults we're signing long term, high interest, balloon payment loans on our bodies when we do those stupid thing like sports.

two years ago I had a frozen shoulder on the left side, 3 rounds of cortisone injection and 6 months of therapy.
It's OK now but still has some limitations.
I've been fighting the right shoulder trying to keep it loose for the last two months and slowly losing ground.

I think I like Cosmo's approach. My old boss talked about a similar approach with a chinese doctor in Colorado.
I would gladly put up with a day or two of agony for long term relief.

I've been to specialists who told me both shoulder's are simply worn out. I had cortisone shots in both. First time, I was in heaven but not so much in the second, and I think the third round did more harm than good.

I'm determined to just live with the pain rather than risk anything under a knife that may make things worse. A doctor friend had the surgery at least a year ago and still can't lift his arm over his head.

I've had both shoulders done and they both work fine now. Rehab was the answer. It hurt like hell but you have to keep doing it. It took a long time to feel better but it was worth it.

Depends on the issue. Some shoulders can't be fixed need replacing. You may just have bone spurs or slight impingement. You could benefit from therapy and cortisone. Full tears of rotator cuff likely need surgery. I had both done with good results. Must do the PT after surgery. Lots of limitations while healing and during PT Find out what the issue is then go from there
