They are all cute till they start pissing on your carpet. At one time we had 3 in the house and 1 stray outside.

We have been a two cat household, never three, and we've had at least one cat in our home for over 25 years. We've never had an issue with the cats doing their business on carpets. I did had one that peed in the tub when she had a urinary infection, (they associate the litter box with pain when they have that issue so they "go" elsewhere). I guess I might have to re-visit the "do you pee in the shower" thread.

I have watched episodes of "My Cat from Hell" on Animal Planet. There are cats that seem to have major issues about where to do their business. Fortunately, we've not dealt with that.

Patricia did that kitty get adopted yet? He really is cute with the white on his face around his mouth.

What do you folks do with your pets when you head out of town for things like car meets, vacations etc.?

We have a self feeder (dry food) and a self water dish for Thelma. My son or daughter in law will stop by daily to give her a little canned food and to tend to her "facility."

I would rather have someone actually stay in the house, or pay someone to stop by twice a day, but I don't know anyone right now who would do that.

Number 1 issue with owning a pet IMHO. We have been SO LUCKY. We have a dog that will not stay in a dog hotel, in fact, when we are gone she will not even let anyone take her for a walk.... she refuses to leave the yard. She started that when I was in Ohio with a broken hip. But thankfully, we have a very responsible neighbor that comes to our house two or three times every day and takes care of all the meds, feeding, bone, and outside business. This started with her youngest daughter, who was replaced by the next daughter, and now that she too went to college, the neighbor does it all. We pay her well but it is worth it.

My next door neighbor and I swap cat duty. The rare times she was gone the same days I was I hired a service so a lady came to my house on those days to check on them, clean the cat box, etc. I have three cat boxes, three feeders with dry food and four water bowls. The cats are fine alone for a couple of nights.
