Very sorry for your loss. They are definitely part of the family.

We had to put our German Shepard down in 2012 and it still seems like yesterday. I feel for you.

Thanks again, all. It does feel like an empty house today.

I had the opportunity to meet Brandy when I stayed the night once. I remember her as beautiful and friendly. Being a dog person I understand what you guys are going through right now. Brings tears ...

^Kyras on 5-19-1993. My screen name is his name. He was dead when I joined S2ki.com but he is always in my heart. I still feel pain in my heart at his loss. I hurt far worse when he died than I did for my mom or dad.

I'm little more sober today. So here's a repost on our animal history. I honestly can not recall when we ever had a home without an animal, till today.

Brandy’s passing got me reflecting about our animals, as we’ve certainly had our share! The first dog (Sandy) acquired soon after we married was part Golden Retriever and part mutt. She loved playing with the kids. A tropical fish tank followed, then a second dog, a Maltese (Charlie) who didn’t appreciate kids. A pound Border Collie (Tiffany) was next but he became too aggressive. Then we acquired our first cat (Misty). When Sandy died, a pure Golden Retriever (Lady) filled the void and won over everyone’s heart. Then came a second cat (Peaches). When a second Golden (Ginger) joined the household and it became clear to me animals were taking over the house! Within a few years a stray cat (Kitty) showed up followed by another set of stray kittens from the woods - one didn’t make it, but the second did (Dixie), so we now were back to three cats. Misty lived until age 21. Ginger was with us 13 years, during which time I surprised Donna with our third Golden (Brandy). Brandy was 13.5 years old when she left us yesterday. She was a proud and wonderful dog. In addition to dogs and cats we’ve owned three horses. The first (Bismark), a Trakehner, came down with a blood disease, EPM, after just two years of ownership. We have a 20-year old purebred Friesian horse (Triton), purchased when he was three, that developed a mysterious back injury 10 years ago. A 17-year-old Appaloosa (Breeze) was acquired five years ago.

Thanks for sharing your pics, they made me laugh. Great memories there. We had a golden that only made it to 7. Excellent dogs(would be better if they didn't shed)

Dave, so sorry to hear this. It must be six years since we had to say goodbye to our Great Dane and we still talk about him every day. We understand your heart break.
