Sorry to here about your loss.
It is tough to watch them go.
It doesn't get any easier when it is natural versus helping them along the way.
In the end, They're still gone.
Thanks for the kind words and thoughts. It sure is tough. We always question replacing our pets because the pain at the end is so hard, we may just end up taking a break.
We knew his heart was in trouble one month ago but we wanted to bring him home and spend more quality time with him before the day came. He really perked up after bringing him home, with meds, he ate and drank and expelled waste like normal right up to the last day. Sadly his heart gave way at the end My best friend in the pic below, I have posted pics of him in this thread before, he loved hanging around my car parts.

How heart wrenching! The way Hershey died just makes it worse than it already is. Are you petless, now?
Its been 15 years since we had a puppy. Boy, I forget how time demanding they are. I set my alarm for 3:30am each night but its the daytime that really takes its toll with typical puppy behavior. We got smarter and blocked off the front room. We are going to have to put up a fence around Donna's gardens because she said some of the plants are toxic to dogs and she doesn't recall which ones. I blew the yard to keep her from eating deer and rabbit poop.
My good friend and former colleague, neighbor, in Colorado had two Australian Shepherds in a row. The last one was a girl, Addie! A real sweetie! She passed last fall and they got another puppy from their breeder in Durango. Well, my Israeli neighbor is in his eighties and has noticeably less patience than he once had. He had a hard time training this one, and to the total disappointment of his lovely wife, Linda, he got fed up one day, and returned Rosie to the breeder. I would definitely have rescued her, but I heard about it from Linda too late. I mention this because the breed is (admirably) very strong willed, as well as beautiful, loyal and lovely. I think Talmy was still not over losing Addie...
We are seeing all those charactoristics you mention. Thankfully Donna has more patience with animals then I do; heck, she already started training her to the command sit.
