One of the girls in our sporty car club has them for her dogs and swears by them. One of them still goes nuts over fireworks but the shirt helps.

I may have to try one on the Wifely Unit's cat.

 

I read that pets take their cues from us, so when our dog Xylie (RIP) was young, and we had a rare, but very very loud thunder and lightening storm, we talked in normal tones and didn't get excited. Even though at the time we were sitting on the floor in the hall where there are no windows, because I was afraid they might get blown out or broken by the shaking of the house, it was that bad! Noises never bothered Xylie her whole life.

 

What you read is true to some extent but believe me, it's not that simple. We've owned way too many dogs, cats, etc. to realize that no matter how we act you can't program them all to be fearless.

We bought the (what I call it) straightjacket for the Golden. We had a storm this afternoon, and put it on her. It was mostly a really heavy rain with the fun stuff - big thunder and lightening missing. Chance of storms tonight or in AM, so we may get to test it again.

 

Titan passed the Thunder & Lightning test with flying colors.
This guy doesn't get phased by much of anything although he did get a little spooked by demolitions training over at Devens.
I've gotten spooked by a few of the larger shots.
I literally looked for house damage after one blast because I thought something had hit the house it shook so bad.

 

Pets are like people, in my opinion. They are born with an innate personality/soul. You can only do so much to change it.

I base this opinion on my experience with five German Shepherds and lots more cats.

 

I doubt that anyone has heard of the movie "Dean Spanley". I would recommend it for anyone who loves animals, especially dogs. It is a beautiful story with Peter O'Toole, Sam Shepard and Bryan Brown. There can be only 7 great dogs in the world at one time.
