A Side Trip
I hadn't heard about the butterfly center, Dave. There is a center at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, but it is indoors, four floors high. You go in, and there are 50-60 species of butterflies, flying here and there among the plants and habitats; and landing on the visitors. My kids love it, so we go there often.
I remember the museum showed a fantastic I-Max film a couple of years ago on migrating animal species that included some incredible footage of the monarch butterfly. i-did't-know-about-that..!

Not only all of the above about Callaway gardens, it's also next to the FDR national park witch includes his home, now a museum, and some terrific roads to drive around on. It's a nice little weekend get away.
