Top down is the ONLY way to go Dr. C. I was top down tonight.
Would that be you or the car? Or is that TMI material?

I turn off signatures and "avatars" on any board I read. I usually turn off displaying in-line photos, too.

I don't find that I miss anything I care to see.

I don't know, sometimes I get a real good chuckle from a sig. Some are funny, and some are clever. I agree that oftentimes they're in poor taste and too long, but it's worth seeing those for the few really clever ones I see.

And also with fltsfshr:

I can read around the crap, non issue for me. But I really do like those penguins.
Regulating $$$$$$ is one thing (thanks, Mr. Meese). Regulating personal taste is something altogether different.

edit: apparently a word that rhymes with "corn" is a no no...what's next?

Well, maybe just a bit TMI!

I did enjoy my drive tonight. I'm off Monday, Rick has to work. The S is MINE, MINE, MINE for the whole day.

One really easy thing people can do to make the sigs less "annoying" (IMO, anyways) is to list things horizontally, rather than vertically. For instance, both ralper and cordy have lists (meets and cars) in their sigs that take up one line per item. Rather than list them vertically, why not list horizontally, so that large ammounts of screen real estate are not consumed with the sig? There's a big difference, IMO, between:

2000 S2000, Silverstone
2003 E320
2005 LR3
1999 ML430
1990 Mazda Miata (soon to be track car)
1990 Ducati 851/888 Superbike

And

2000 S2000, Silverstone

Mostly they are just wasted bandwidth. My opinion is that whatever is in their sig should be on a web page somewhere, and people can go look at it if they want. That's why the site offers you the chance to supply a link to a "home page".

Chris,

As a matter of fact if you look closely at my sig you'll see the meets are listed both horizontally and vertically. The titles of the meets are verticle, but the years of participation are horizontal. I tried it your way and found the sig to be way too hard to read.

I'm not sure that this is the problem anyway. I think that Doc was more talking about the huge graphics and distasteful photos.

I do agree with you, however, I too would ban all moving pictures and graphics. I find them to be very distracting. I don't even like the animated badges.

Not by my choice. I belong to both clubs, but I voted against the animated badges. The vote went the other way. Given my choice the badges wouldn't be animated.

I do belong to both clubs, and I am proud to display their banners, even though I don't like the banner.
