We took an overnight trip to historic Charleston South Carolina. Apparently there was a war there slightly before I was born. They still had a couple cannons by the water. I tried them on and decided that size really does matter...
I was at that exact spot last October! Stayed in Charleston for 3-4 days (in a B&B near the college). What a great place to visit. You have shorts on, but it was windy and chilly- we froze!
Ft. Sumner was very interesting too. "Where the first shot was fired".
What did you see?
Unfortunately, or fortunately (depending on which side one is on) size does matter when it comes to guns of this sort. This is not an attempt to hi-jack your thread, but shows the evolution of the gun (cannon).
The sixteen inch guns on the legendary battleship the USS Missouri (where the surrender agreement ending WWII was signed on her forward deck) where capable of hurling an 1800 LB shell twenty-two miles! In other words, that is like shooting a 70's VW Super Beetle twenty-two miles.
P.S. That is the USS Arizona Memorial in the foreground just off the port bow.
