Sleeping late
I was never a late sleeper. As a kid in the 1950s I’d get up at the crack of dawn to watch “The Modern Farmer” or “Woody Woodpecker” on TV. By my very early teens “The Modern Farmer” gave way to work and school. The schools I went to in Brooklyn were always overcrowded, on split session and somehow, for some reason, my year was always on the early session. I always had to be out of bed by 6:30 am. On days when there wasn’t any school my father would wake me at 6:30 to go to work. It didn’t matter if I stayed out late on Friday night at 6:30 am on Saturday I had to get out of bed. Same thing on Sunday.
After college nothing changed. Work started at 8:00 am, and with a 45 minute commute I still had to be out of bed by 6:30. I thought things would change once I moved to the city, after all I no longer had a 45 minute commute. Instead of sleeping later my work day started a half hour earlier. And still the cursed alarm clock would ring at 6:30 am.
Now I live out in New Jersey, I still have a 45 minute commute to my office and my work day still starts before 8:00 am. The alarm clock still rings at 6:30 am. But now (except for tax season) my weekends belong to me.
I always thought that once my weekends belonged to me I’d sleep late. The idea of pulling the covers over my head for a few more hours of sleep when the first rays of morning light entered the room was very appealing. Whenever people ask me what I’m doing for the weekend I reply without any hesitation, “Sleeping late, both days”. And, if it’s a three day weekend I chuckle to myself about sleeping in an extra day.
You know what they say about the best laid plans of mice and men. Something has gone very wrong. Try as I may, my internal alarm clock goes off at 6:00 am and I’m out of bed by 6:30. No matter what I do, I can’t seem to sleep late. My father used to tell me that when he was a young man he was able to sleep late but he couldn’t afford to and by the time he could afford to sleep late he was no longer able to. I, of course, used to laugh at him, but now I know better. I am no longer able to either.
How about you? Are you able to sleep late?

It's when your bio clock starts drifting that it really starts to get annoying. 6 becomes 5:30 then 5:00.
Throw in some stress at least work and before you know it you rolling out of bed at 3:00 in the morning. Even of weekends.

In some ways, I envy you for your conditioned ability to just easily get up early. I am opposite. It's something I consider a problem at times. I have to drag myself from the bed on early mornings and it's a chore. I HATE when I have to be up before the sun, yet I LOVE the solitude of early morning and the beauty of sunrise, and I both chide and laugh at myself for letting myself miss seeing so many sunrises.

I can sleep late. I got up after noon, today. I was up late and posted here at 2:48 AM, so I don't feel guilty about getting up so late.
I volunteer 2 days a week and get up at 6 AM on those days. I do it in part, to really appreciate all the other days I can sleep in.
When my two kids were in grammar school, I'd get up around 5 AM so I could get in an hour on the NordicTrack before taking care of them. Not anymore.
I've never been a late sleeper. And, even though I retired a few months ago, my wakeup time hasn't changed much. I'm an early person. Usually between 4 and 5 AM. I remember being married to a night owl. It didn't work very well. Fortunately, the +1 is more on my schedule. Probably from being in the military all those years and still working military contracts.

Our alarm/radio goes off at 6:15 and neither one of us is happy about that. It's an uncivilized time, in my book. 7:00 AM, 7:30 is just so much more appealing.
Sleeping late, for me is 8:00 AM. Any later than that and I feel like I'm wasting my day. Anytime I can get up at 7:30 or slightly later, I'm good.

If it was completely up to me, I'd be up until 3am, then sleep until noon. It never is, though, so I try to get up at 5:45 to work out (sometimes not get up until it's too late to work out), and try hard to get to bed by 10:30.
I do love the early mornings, but my body rarely complies.
