Sleeping late
Rob, I had to be at work at 8 or 8:30 (depending on tax season or post) for 27 years. When I moved to Napa and opened my own office, my suits and ties went out the window, and so did my alarm clock. I'm usually up between 6:30 and 7, but it's when I wake up, not when I get woken up. I don't see clients until 9:30 because it's usually 9 or 9:15 when I finally arrive at work.
I'll bet I have slept past 8 o'clock no more than 3 times in the last 35 years.

I was always an early riser until I got married. My late husband was a marathon late riser and I learned to do the same. I enjoyed laying in bed with him, even if I was awake, rather then get up and be alone. Having a child changed that, but then I enjoyed that too for an entirely different reason. So, I still wake up early and I enjoy the light of day better than the dark of night.
Oh, I'll get up anywhere between 5:00 AM and 8:00 AM. I'm a regular train schedule. You can set you watch by me if you want it to be wrong. The trouble is, I never know if it is going to be an early, late or "just right" rise time. So I set the alarm. Tonight it is set for 6:00 AM.
I am definitely not a morning person. Now that I am retired, I regularly sleep in until about 8:00 AM, although the occasional early morning that I do get up with the dog, I really enjoy sitting in my recliner watching the sun rise while I sip on a freshly brewed cup of Java.
I finished doing weights at about 1:30 AM, then took a shower and watched some recorded Long Island Medium and New Girl. People who think you waste the day if you sleep in are correct but they are wasting the night
when I'm still up.
I've got the coffee pot set to go on at 5:55 AM Tuesday morning. Up at 6 AM tomorrow to volunteer at Saddleback Hospital. I love my Tuesdays. I enjoy helping people who appreciate it and there are three ladies who are also volunteers Tuesday mornings that I enjoy catching up with. Fridays I'm there again but without the fun ladies to talk to and doing a different job, that I also enjoy.
My normal schedule I'm up around 6:30-7 am and go to bed 11-midnight. I don't to exceed past midnight. My body needs minimum 6 hours to function during the day.
Once a month my friends get me to stay up till 2-4 am. It usually ends up being a Tuesday night and I'm going to feel like a sack of terrible at work the next day. Good times.

Unlike Ralper I have never been a "morning person". Which is interesting to me because we were born on the same day and year which in my mind blows a bit of a hole in Astrology.
At SF13 someone that knows both of us asked me what time of day I was born compared to Rob? I may have to research that with my Mother.
The Plant Pixie is a morning person that was born in Iowa and I have always told her that she should have married a dairy farmer as she is often up at the crack of dawn. I on the other hand have preferred to see my sun rises before going to bed after a long night out. Even as a child I remember staying up to watch the Tonight Show when it was hosted by Jack Parr, and of course all through the years with Johnny Carson. As a teenager it was not unusual for me to drive out to Montauk Point on Long Island to watch the sun rise after a night of partying back in the late 60's or early 70's.
Now that I am retired, I often stay up late and sleep in until Noon or after. With that stated: I am posting this at 02:10 EDT.
