Snow
I was tuning in my six o’clock newscast,
The weatherman mentioned snow,
As soon as I heard that four letter word,
I was makin my plans to go.
If I was a bird I could fly back South,
A bear I could go to sleep,
Do anything rather than hang around here,
When the snow starts getting deep.
Now you know what they say about snowflakes,
How there ain’t no two the same,
Well, all them flakes look alike to me,
Every one is a dirty shame.
My ears are cold,
My feet are cold,
Bermuda stays on my mind.
And I’m here to say that if winter comes,
Then spring is way behind.
I don’t have no heavy hip boots,
I don’t have no furry hat,
I don’t have no long-john underwear,
No layer of protective fat.
I’d take a plane right to sunny Spain,
Oh, but I don’t have no dough,
But I’d build a bridge and I’d walk there,
To get away from all that snow.

I feel that way too. Not that I don’t like snow, I do like it, but only for the first half hour or so. After that I wish it would all melt and go away. Unfortunately the weather prediction for Friday evening into Saturday morning is for blizzard like conditions and 6 to 16 inches of snow in Northern New Jersey. We live in a high elevation (for New Jersey) and we usually get hit real hard by snowstorms.
I guess I’m ready for it. I have my snow blower and my generator parked behind my S2000 all ready to go. Still, I was hoping for a clear, cold weekend so that I could take my S out of the garage.
I haven’t had the S out since the end of November. The weather hasn’t been great, and I’ve been awfully busy with work and with life in general. This weekend would’ve been the perfect time to take it for a drive.
I love driving the S top down on clear cold days. All you need is a leather jacket, a scarf and a pair of gloves. Take the top down, roll down the windows, put the heat up and you’re set to go. Driving top down in the cold is exhilarating and the S likes it too. For some reason, the car seems much stronger and peppier in the cold. And, it’s fun to see the looks on the faces in the cars passing by as they look at you driving top down is sub freezing weather. They don’t know what they’re missing and besides, with the heater up it’s really quite comfortable.
But, my cold weather drive is not to be. Not this weekend anyway. They’re really serious about this storm. The Township's crews have been out all afternoon pouring brine on the roadways. I don’t quite know what the brine is supposed to do, but the town seems to believe in it. Either that or they signed a big contract and have to use it. It’s hard for me to believe it’ll actually melt the snow and not wash away but what do I know? Immediately after the storm the town will be out plowing and probably knock down half of the mailboxes in the community. After that they put down so much salt that I’m surprised it doesn’t eat through the asphalt. None of that is healthy for an S2000, especially an S2000 that’s going to be shown at the Concours d’Excellence in 2027. So, I guess the S stays in the garage another week.
Oh well, maybe next week.

For all the weather nerds, here is a blizzard blog from Weather Underground. Looks like snow is starting to accumulate in Mass.
Matt is visiting his Mother in Riverhead, LI. I called him last night and there was a lot of noise in the background. I asked him where he was and he answered stocking up at Walbaum's grocery store. So I'm thinking he is getting milk, water or bread. Oh, no, his Mom was out of Klondikes!!
