Val, I have done the same thing, but usually with phone calls, and then you can just "pretend" you meant to call that number.

BTW, Rob, I was in the Verizon store yeaterday too. It was time for a new phone (new every two) and I opted for something a little less techis. I just got a phone, mp3 player, and camera. I guess I'm just a Luddite when it comes to phones.

Val, If you want to talk to Grannyrod just call her.
It's Ok to do it, really.

you don't need to come up with these elaborate constructs to have an excuse...

A week ago at the College Inn in College Station, TX my cell phone was stolen from my room while it was being charged when I was out at the track. Turns out the maid, who doesn't speak English, took it. I reported it to the front desk, and they asked the service staff about it -- with denials all around. When I called my number, a lady answered, saying she had "bought the phone for $200 from a muchacho by the name of Ramiro". I think the police got involved. In the end I got the phone back from the management a week later. The leather cover was gone, my call list had been erased, and every variable -- ring tone, language, options had been changed, and a large bill had been run up on the number.
Nice way to remember Aggieland

Be very careful with your cell phone. Here's what could happen if you lose it.

I think the better lesson might be to control the content on your phone then you have less to worry about.

My grandma was pretty smart.
She always said never record or write anything you don't want seen in public.
That advice might have worked equally well in this circumstance.

It is impossible to get a simple cell phone anymore. I just want a phone. Not even the camera. But NO.....I know everyone is using them now as their life's blood, but I ain't one of those peeps.
