Something in the water?
Though I am just a lowly pre-vint (for 1 more month today) I generally consider the vintage forum as a respite from the negative, flaming, moronic, raging asininity which has come to be prevalent in just about every other forum on S2KI.
People in every forum seem to just be jumping to perceive the most negative possible connotations in even the most innocent posts. Every molehill a mountain, every teapot brewing a tempest. Is the demographic makeup of the membership undergoing a major change? Is there too much pent-up holiday rage? WTF is going on?
I go through long periods at sea when I am totally out of contact with the internet, so my involvement with S2KI seems like a series of individual interactions rather than a continuium. Ever since I came back in November it just seems that civility has taken a site-wide vacation.
I learned a while back (and seem to need to keep RE-learning) that in order to have civil and meaningful conversations over the internet you must automatically give EVERYONE the benefit of the doubt, to look for the BEST possible interpretation of someone's words rather than automatically assuming the WORST. It does require effort, especially when you may have some kind of negative history with the poster in question, in which case it may be better to say nothing at all rather than saying something that isn't nice, lest you poison any possible information, interaction, enjoyment, or edification that other people may get out of that thread.
If I am just rehashing crap that everyone thinks has already been talked to death, please feel free to lock or delete this thread.
Cheers,
Mike

Captain. I do not have much experience with the areas of the forum except for Vintage, Mid-A and I lurk and occasionally post on S2000 Talk. Everyone has always been very kind to me, however, I appreciate what you're saying here. From time to time we weather a little bit of a tempest in a teapot, but we're all good friends here and speak our piece. BTW, you are not a "lowly" prevint. You are held in high esteem.
Thanks Val!, I may be seeing something where there is nothing, it just seems to me that things in general aren't as civil as they used to be, back in "the good old days" of 2005
. I just though maybe the issue deserved a thread of it's own even though I have seen the same thing commented on obliquely in other threads.
Cheers,
Mike

I've been here since the beginning and S2KI has surely changed over time.
When S2KI first started there was alot more interest and discussions about the car itself, we were all learning and anxious to get more information. At that time we had members who didn't know about the 'secret compartment', we found out what speakers fit in our doors, we shared common problems, etc.....
As time went on the car became more widespread and popular. In addition it was obtainable by more owners due to the reduced used car prices. This was both good and bad. It meant fresh blood was coming in but it also meant changes. Some didn't like the change and left the forum. Others limit where they visit and some don't stop by that frequently.
I see it all as evolution.

Very well put.
Nice to see two
members post up, maybe there's hope yet
I have just been taking things a bit too seriously myself lately (a case of the 'viper's maybe)
anyway, I still enjoy hanging around this forum and am actually looking foward to getting my vintage badge next month.

Or, perhaps, "devolution".
For whatever reason, I see a far less civil cadre of users over on S2000 Talk these days (compared to, say, this time last year). And I don't have a good explanation for it, either. The lowered prices on the used S market seems a little too pat for me, but I suppose that could be a contributing factor.
In any case, it's just a matter of fine-tuning your personal filter for such things and adapting to whatever changes are happening. And sometimes there are good changes to celebrate, so maybe it evens our eventually. HPH

Mike. Prevints always welcome. We do experience growing pains/squabbles from time to time. The good news is that when we get together we have a
of a good time.In the event there is something in the water, I propose we change all drinking water to champagne for the next few weeks, until folks are over the "Holiday madness." That should do the trick.

Mike, two things. First I stay in Vintage and my local forum because like you, I feel the rest of the site is just a bunch of kids running around with fast cars. In Vintage we appreciate both the cars and our friends. Second, when are you leaving again and can I go with you?
