I love the lyrics and feel of this one too.

Lemon yellow sun up overhead today
What more is there that I could say then Lord, let it stay
I ain't got nothing to go wrong todayNo, not today
I've been up and down this street for quite some time
The gutters get filled, it takes all kind like fish on a line
The way that things go these days, I'm fine
Yeah, I'm doing fine

Good times come, they sure come slow
Why that maybe I don't know, just let it flow
All things in this world they come, they go
Yes, this much I know

If silence is golden then your words they're lead
can't believe how that shit sticks in my head
The sun shines away, there's nothing to say
People they talk anyway, they're talking away

If you have ever had to live through substance abuse personally, this one is pretty damned on the point. Gives me chills when I hear it. Nearly threw it all away myself on some pretty hard shit back in the day and have watched friends and loved ones throw it all away the same way. Drags on a bit at the end, but still a great song.

Blood-shot your eyes drop
And the skin's all wearing thin
There's no one here to tell you about the depth of the water
Or the trouble that you're in

You're dancin' with your demons baby
You forgot your former lie
And it was hard swimmin' once
And now you're daily divin' in

And I'm bringin' home the rain
There's no supper on the table
And my feet are in the flame
I'm drying out again

All your kin have all gone on to fields all bathed in sun
And the only things left in your possession is an empty bottle and a gun
And the weekends come and go like tides and they soak you to the neck
And pretty soon the weekdays are all the same

And I'm bringin' home the rain
(I'm bringin' home the rain)
There's no supper on the table
(No supper on the table)
And my feet are in the flame
I'm drying out again
I'm bringin' home the rain
(I'm bringin' home the rain)
A baby's cryin' in a cradle
(Baby's cryin' in a cradle)
And my feet are in the flame
I'm drying out again

Evil are the demons that haunt you
Forgetting what it was that they taught you
And now there's no one left to stop you
Or to catch you when you drop

You're evil as the demons that haunt you
Forgetting what it was that they taught you
And now there's no one left to stop you
Or to catch you when you drop

You're evil as the demons that haunt you
Forgetting what it was that they taught you
But now there's no one left to stop you
Or to catch you when you when you

When you when your
Blood-shot your eyes drop
And the skin's all wearing thin
There's no one here to tell you about the depth of the water
Or the trouble that you're in

You're dancin' with your demons baby
You forgot your former lie
And it was hard swimmin' once
And now you're daily divin' in

And I'm bringin' home the rain
(I'm bringin' home the rain)
There's no supper on the table
(No supper on the table)
And my feet are in the flame
I'm drying out again
IIm bringin' home the rain
(I'm bringin' home the rain)
A baby's cryin' in a cradle
(Baby's cryin' in a cradle)
And my feet are in the flame
I'm drying out again
And I'm bringin' home the rain
(I'm bringin' home the rain)
There's no supper on the table
(No supper on the table)
And my feet are in the flame
Oh the ceiling's closin' in

Ok one more Still on the side of lyrics I love and make sense to me. And if you look a short ways in the comments you will see his dad commented. The singer of this duo passed from Lukemia (and wrote it before he was diagnosed) so knowing this really kinda hits you after hearing the song.

It don’t matter if the cold wind blows
I’m gonna wind up working in the thick of it

Sunshine through the rain and snow
There’s an oily brine bilge water baptism waiting below

That’s just the waves slamming against the topsides’ sound
Don’t let the ever rolling motion go and get you down

Don’t let it shake your steady thread cutting hand
Keep stealing ribbons from the steel and giving hell
To every halyard you can

In spite of all the wherewithal
To fight it all I will face it all
In spite of all the wherewithal
To fight it all I’ll embrace it all

When everyday’s like a war between the will to go on
And a wish that the world would spiral into the sun
Turn your head toward the storm that’s surely coming along

If the sun was always shining and our load always light
We’d be shaking like a leaf with every God given night
And we’d break under the weight of any pressure
That was ever applied

Will you be ready when the straw boss calls?
He’s got an ever loving bone to pick with one and all
Don’t let his condescension get you down
Just have the strength to know you’re wrong
And when you’re right the strength to stand your ground

In spite of all the wherewithal
To fight it all I will face it all
In spite of all the wherewithal
To fight it all I’ll embrace it all

When everyday is like a war
You find no strength from your usual source
There’s no peace, there’s no rest
Your fortitude is feeling put to the test
When everyday is like a war between the will to go on
And a wish that the world would spiral into the sun
Turn your head toward the storm that’s surely coming along
If the sun was always shining and our load always light
We’d be shaking like a leaf with every God given night
And we’d break under the weight
Of any pain that ever came in this life

A young kid who grew up in Mississippi included this song on his first album. The kid was Mac McAnally who went on to great success in Nashville, but that first album was the only one that ever really caught my attention. The track is 'Barney", which sounds like it was penned by someone much older and wiser....

Barney came to the gossip bench said I barbecued a dog
On a tractor axle yesterday down at the dump yard
And nobody looked surprised if they was listening at all
Cause when you're old to look surprised you got to try real hard
And they don't
And they won't
Because they tried before and they were just ignored
By everything and everyone
They tried

Barney told some jokes and kept 'em grinning for a while
Especially all the ones they'd heard before
And when he left they all said good old Barney sure can raise a smile
And then they wondered to themselves what am I smiling for
And then they don't
Maybe they just won't
But they all smiled before and now there's nothin more to laugh about
So they go without
A smile

Barney gets around to be as old as all the rest
He's the only one that seems to keep on trying
And he still drinks and tells tall tales and hunts and fishes with the best
While the others sit around and say its time to die
And won't
Anyway they don't
I guess they've lived so long that they just go on cause they was raised that way
What a price to pay
To live

Ah, we missed your family in church today
40 years ago I looked a lot like you
Sit down son help us pass the time of day
Lord knows there ain't much of nothing else to do
The good Lord knows there's nothing else to do

Barney died last week they said he'd drunk hisself to death
The church ladies said we're better off without him
They said he finished his last and his biggest yarn when he drew in his last breath
And mama told me if I start to feeling bad about him
Don't
Your Grandpa won't
You know he thought before and he said thinking is nothing more than killing time
And time don't matter anymore

Ahh, we missed your family in church today
Have you heard who's runnin round with you know who
Lights on at the funeral home who passed away
Lord knows there ain't much of nothin else to do
The good Lord knows there's nothin else to do

A bittersweet lovesong by Bob Dylan

… It ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
If'n you don't know by now
And it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
It'll never do somehow
When your rooster crows at the break of dawn
Look out your window and I'll be gone
You're the reason I'm a-traveling on
But don't think twice, it's all right

… And it ain't no use in turning on your light, babe
That light I never knowed
And it ain't no use in turning on your light, babe
I'm on the dark side of the road
But I wish there was somethin' you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
But we never did too much talking anyway
But don't think twice, it's all right

… So it ain't no use in calling out my name, gal
Like you never done before
And it ain't no use in calling out my name, gal
I can't hear you anymore
I'm a-thinking and a-wonderin' walking down the road
I once loved a woman, a child, I'm told
I give her my heart but she wanted my soul
But don't think twice, it's all right

… So long honey, babe
Where I'm bound, I can't tell
Goodbye's too good a word, babe
So I'll just say, "Fare thee well"
I ain't a-saying you treated me unkind
You could've done better but I don't mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don't think twice, it's all right

"Sully's Pail" a traditional folk song reinterpreted by Tom Paxton

I've a thing or two ta tell ya that I think you ought to know
About that rusty bucket Sully carries down below
You're not the first one stranger, that has laughed at Sully's Pail
You're the only one that's laughing now, the rest has heard this tale
Sure, when we was young and had some, had ten years in the game
Old Sull, he had a partner and Jim Reilly was his name
They had knocked about together, Bingham, Butte, and Coeur D'Alene
And they brawled in every bar-room from Ely to Fort McLean
Now me and old Ted Johnson, sure you'll not remember him
We was working at the Rarus had a stope with Sull and Jim
The four of us together, we was working side-by-side
That's how I chanced to be there on the night Jim Reilly died
Well, the blastin' had been easy, it was coming out like sand
And we was muckin' out the ore, those days we mucked by hand
And we was nearly finished, and I hadn't heard a sound
But something must have happened, for Jim Reilly yelled - bad ground
When we headed for the timb'ring, Sully must've took a spill
For when we looked back in there, he was pinned beneath his drill
The ceiling, it was groaning now, all set to drop the lid
And Sully, pinned beneath his drill, was sobbing like a kid
Well, there's men can watch their partners die, not throw their lives away
But Reilly wasn't one of them, he wasn't built thatway
As soon's he seed what happened, “Hey, hold on there, Sull!” he cried
And before he had the words out, he had thrown the drill aside
They come around the ore car, Reilly wearing a big grin
Guess he never knew what happened when the hanging wall caved in
Sully reached the timb'ring, his face as white as chalk
And Reilly, two yards back of him, caught fifteen tons of rock
That day Sully's pail was buried, he ate from Reilly's pail in tears
And he's carried that same bucket now for more than twenty years
So, you can laugh at Sull because he's mean and drinks a lot
But don't laugh at Sully's bucket, that's the only friend he's got

Sally called when she got the word,
She said: "I suppose you've heard -
About Alice".
Well I rushed to the window,

And I looked outside,
But I could hardly believe my eyes -
As a big limousine rolled up
Into Alice's drive...

Oh, I don't know why she's leaving,
Or where she's gonna go,
I guess she's got her reasons,
But I just don't want to know,
'Cos for twenty-four years
I've been living next door to Alice.
Alice, who the f*ck is Alice

Twenty-four years just waiting for a chance,
To tell her how I'm feeling, maybe get a second glance,
Now I've got to get used to not living next door to Alice...
Alice, who the f*ck is Alice

Grew up together,
Two kids in the park,
Carved our initials,
Deep in the bark,
Me and Alice.
Now she walks through the door,
With her head held high,
Just for a moment, I caught her eye,
As a big limousine pulled slowly
Out of Alice's drive.

Oh, I don't know why she's leaving,
Or where she's gonna go,
I guess she's got her reasons,
But I just don't want to know,
'Cos for twenty-four years
I've been living next door to Alice.
Alice, who the f*ck is Alice

Twenty-four years just waiting for a chance,
To tell her how I'm feeling, maybe get a second glance,
Now I gotta get used to not living next door to Alice...
Alice, who the f*ck is Alice

Sally called back, asked how I felt,
She said: "I know how to help -
Get over Alice".
She said: "Now Alice is gone,
But I'm still here,
You know I've been waiting
For twenty-four years..."
And the big limousine disappeared...

I don't know why she's leaving,
Or where she's gonna go,
I guess she's got her reasons,
But I just don't want to know,
'Cos for twenty-four years
I've been living next door to Alice.
Alice, who the f*ck is Alice

Twenty-four years just waiting for a chance,
To tell her how I feel, and maybe get a second glance,
But I'll never get used to not living next door to Alice...
Alice, who the f*ck is Alice

Now I'll never get used to not living next door to Alice...

From the Possum, George Jones:

He said, "I'll love you till I die"
She told him, "You'll forget in time"
As the years went slowly by
She still preyed upon his mind
He kept her picture on his wall
Went half crazy now and then
But he still loved her through it all
Hoping she'd come back again
Kept some letters by his bed
Dated 1962
He had underlined in red
Every single, I love you
I went to see him just today
Oh, but I didn't see no tears
All dressed up to go away
First time I'd seen him smile in years
He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today
You know, she came to see him one last time (ooh)
Ah, and we all wondered if she would (ooh)
And it kept runnin' through my mind (ooh)
"This time he's over her for good"
He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today.

This is not really a lyric in the songs, but is on The Wall and is one of my favorite because of where it is on the album.

"Isnt this where .... we came in?"

If you know where that is on the album you will know why I like it lol. And as a hint, it comes in two pieces in different parts of the album ...
