During a short apprenticeship in auto repair in Tokyo, Honda developed a 90hp V-8 Curtis Wright aircraft engine which he raced on a Ford chassis. He set a Japanese speed record hitting 75 mph. Later that year at another attempt for a speed record, he and his brother nearly lost their lives when their supercharged Ford somersaulted at over 120 kph. Following the accident, at age 22 he returned home to start his own repair business. In his early thirties, Honda turned his talents toward producing piston rings - a business he sold shortly after the war.

I was hoping that with all the Vintage people on this forum there would be more interest in the older sports cars and history; seems like there are only a handfull of us who really got into it.
