Yes, it should have been. It also should have been pretty obvious that invading Iraq ... never mind. Anyway, the interesting message here is that decision-making can become easily subverted by the mind's ability to rationalize away things that don't match up with the desired reality. From the moment the idea was conceived, any nagging thoughts about how stupid it was were probably instant suppressed before they ever reached the conscious level.
I suppose you're right, but somehow I think the level of acceptable stupidity has fallen significantly in recent years.

BTW, locally we recently had a case where some people were stuck in an elevator between floors. They decided to jump out to a lower floor, but one lost his balance and fell down the shaft to his death. It just came out today that the reason the elevator was stuck between floors is that this same guy had been jumping up and down in it while it was travelling.
Two stupid decisions in a row (play with the elevator, then leave the elevator when it was unsafe) ended up killing him.
At least spending 41 hours in a Wal-Mart was not fatal.

I guess so but it seems to me it should've been real easy to see what an idiotic idea spending all that time in Wal-Mart was right from the beginning.
