Starting a business
I posted about perhaps starting a design business on the side, mainly for peeps in my condo building, at least at first. There are 500 apts, so plenty of potential business. And they are all 20+ years old. Many have not been updated at all. I love designing/renovating, and have most recently renovated the kitchen and guest bath in my condo. Master bath to be completed shortly. I think I'm pretty good at planning and organizing, too. So...anyone who has experience with startups, please weigh in with your advice. I know Ray has his detailing business. I'm considering doing it gratis at first to gain some buzz in the building. Then charging at some point after my name gets around.
Deb, best of luck. I would love to discuss this with you at any time, after starting and operating three different companies there are so many ways to go with this. If you'd like please pm me and we can discuss over the phone.

Do you need another bathroom to design au gratis for experience?
Deb, I have moved beyond "word of mouth" for my detailing business and placed some low cost ads in the local paper, church bulletin and a weekly website newsletter. I also talked to Yellow Pages today and we are working on a 1 page Website and inclusion in the yellow pages directory. Cost for this service is about $30/month so 2 details takes care of expenses for the year for this service. It is flexible and allows me to make changes and add pix of cars recently detailed. I am photographing a 1962 fuel injected Corvette I am detailing tomorrow.
