I hope it is a bubble as the lower end cars that I like are starting to get ridiculously priced and they are all selling very quickly.

There is a certain amount of star quality that gets attached to a car when a celebrity such as Steve McQueen has owned it. According to an article that I read, the auction house thinks that McQueen's ownership should add a quite a few dollars to the price.

Also according to them another of the same model is also be auctioned. They think the difference in price will be totally attributable to McQueen.

In "Gone in Sixty Minutes", Nicholas Cage visited the snobbish Ferrari dealer, stating that he wouldn't be a "poser" (or something like that, I don't remember the exact dialog) if he drove a 275GTB-4. It's one of the most desirable Ferrari production models (around 200 built, compared to 36 GTOs); it will be interesting to see how much the "McQueen provenance" adds to the value since a similar car without that background is in the same auction.

It will add a "ton"........ the man is a movie/racing icon. I still constantly see ads with his name/picture etc. in Vintage race car magazines. I would love to be able to throw out his name at my next garden party when it moves over to my garage area.

Yes, he's a real icon.

I read a story about the early filming of "Wanted: Dead or Alive." A stunt double was supposed to run out and jump on a horse pretending to be McQueen. He asked the director "how good should I make this guy look?" The reply was basically, "give it all you've got. He can probably do it better."

Kind of like James Garner and stunt drivers on "The Rockford Files."

Many years ago, I saw a great "Later" show episode where Bob Costas interviewed Ali MacGraw. Her insights into McQueen's last days (laetrile treatment in Mexico for his cancer) and general comments about the guy were touching.

McQueen was my favorite and that Ferrari will fetch a lot more since he owned it. He was Mr. Cool and his legend lives on. Hollywood non-conformist who did his own thing his own way. Bullitt was my all time favorite.
