Default Synchronicity

Jung spent a lifetime trying to define it. Yesterday in some weird way it happened to me.

I have 30 stitches in my face. I got them yesterday when they removed a basal skin cancer.

When I got back home, the phone rang. It was a broker I use in California. Her husband had just been diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer and she was taking a leave from her office.

I'm sitting at my desk, feeling the anesthetic wear off and browsing the web. I get on my local car site and here's a kid asking for donations for his grandmother. She's somewhere in NY with stage 4 lung cancer.

I don't know either the grandmother or the kid. I do know that by the time I read that, he had my attention. So much so I made a small donation to her cancer fund. I'm still feeling the synchronicity so I thought I'd share the fund website in case anyone else feels it too. http://www.indiegogo.com/mygrandmascancerfundraiser

I normally don't react to things like this but something moved me.

Wow...30 stitches is a lot! I had a squamous cell carcinoma removed not too long ago, but I think it was only four stitches. Fortunately, nothing further to worry about. But I no longer spend time in the sun and haven't for a few years.

I think once we start pondering our own mortality (for whatever reason), it triggers the kind of reaction you had. Health isn't taken for granted at our age.

I totally agree. I had a precancerous tumor removed from my arm a few years ago. Nowhere near the # of stitches you had. I've pondered my mortality more since I injured my back several yrs ago and I do not take things for granted.

I think those 30 stitches and the word cancer may have something to do with your reaction. Thirty stitches is a lot, you must have had a large lesion.

+1 has had a few issues with skin cancer as well. Thankfully, none were melanoma. He's at the dermatologist twice a year now. One surgery required a skin graft taken from his eyelid to side of his nose where the cancer was. Not pretty. Though we know the skin issues are from years gone by, we are much more careful about sun exposure. Beach vacations are no longer high on our list.

The scar is about an inch and a half long. There's two different kinds of thread in it that are two different colors. The reason I think for all the stitches were because of it's location. It was on my cheek just to the right of my mouth. They told me will be invisible when it heals. Apparently I've had it for a long time, over 20 years. I ended up going to the doctor for it after my wife bought me a 5 bladed vibrating Gillette razor. I promptly shaved it off. It didn't want to heal.

I have since gone back to a 3 blade lighter weight one.

My wife thinks I look like a pirate. ARGGGGGH
