Well, he has been accepted into the Baltimore City Teaching Residency. He will start mid-June. He's very happy and so are we. It requires six weeks of rigorous training. If he successfully completes that and passes some required tests, he will be teaching next fall.

Thanks. Baltimore is a challenging city in some ways, but I think he is up for it. That's what the program is all about.

The +1's son took two Praxis tests in the past few days - required to teach. He thinks he did pretty well. Official results in the next week or so. He is due to report for orientation in Baltimore in early June.

Update...son passed the teaching tests with flying colors. He will fly to Baltimore this Sat for his three-day orientation next week, then go back home before driving back for his six-week training June 24. The +1 went up yesterday and arranged an apt in Towson, so he will be installed in that when he arrives. It is nice and affordable. Got an inexpensive furniture package, too. All that gets delivered Fri and set up. They don't have to be there. We are getting him a microwave and some kitchen stuff. The +1 will go up when son arrives and finish getting the basics and settling him in.
So things are moving in a positive direction. The program and the teaching will be very challenging, but son should be up for it. There is a lot of mentoring and coaching, not just during the training but also during the first year of teaching. And at the end of the first year, he will be able to enroll in the Master's in Education program at Johns Hopkins.

The +1 went up yesterday for the furniture delivery. He has things pretty much set up for son's arrival today. So far, so good. Spend some bonding time before coming home tomorrow.

Son's orientation went very well and he is still excited about the future. Heads back to MS for a couple of weeks before driving up for six weeks of training and we hope a new job come Sept.

The +1's son returned to Baltimore Mon. Has a job fair today where we hope he will get an idea of where he can teach in Sept. Not sure if he can submit an application or has to wait until he is done with his training in early August. TBD...
