Technology versus the Arts

To me, my mountain bike frame (below) is art too... The way this frame is welded, and the fact that it's so light, really speak to me. I guess I'm kind of a nut for Titanium.
Several months ago, I took the family to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts to see Ralph Lauren's cars. Most of that collection qualifies as art to me!

Charlie,I agree that good welding seems like a work of art when it is done by hand. Especially Heliarc welding. Those perfect little symetrical pools laid down in a perfect bead definitely requires talent.
As far as Ralph Lauren's cars I would have enjoyed seeing those.
I do have a fair amount of admiration for people like him and Martha Stewart that re-invent themselves and create a mass market for their "Brand Name".
Born Ralph Lifshitz in the Bronx, NYC, makes me wonder if he has ever been on a Polo Pony?
As many of you may know, I grew up in Queens, NYC and as a teenager I spent a fair amount of time at the MOMA. That was one of the benefits of growing up in the city. I could hop on a bus (.15 back then) and then onto the subway and go to Manhattan to visit the MOMA, or other museums like the Museum of Natural History, or the Hayden Plantitarium.
I have lived in the Washington DC Metro area for about thirty five years now. That is one of the things that I like about living here is access to the Smithsonian's collections, etc. Which reminds me that I need to revisit their current exhibits.
As the Generation Six Version of the Internet Protocol kicks in by 2008 how will that effect the core of this thread and impact the arts?
IP G6 will provide 2200 IP addresses for every square kilometer on earth. It is estimated that by the year 2010 that every person in the modern world will be wearing no lest than five IP addressesable devices on their person.
Everything will be over TCP/IP.
The world as we know it now will change for future generations. Just like today with the way that Pod Casting is changing the face of the broad cast media, it will be a bold new world. It would be interesting to see where the world is at at the turn of the 22nd Century.

Ummmm, will there still be pens and paper? I have no idea what this other stuff is.
I use my Manager as the example: He is in his late 50's. When ever an corporate e-mail is sent to us. For whatever reason (besides killing trees ) he forwards it too everyone in my group again, and then prints out six copies, highlights our names on the distribution list and puts a paper copy in our box? Don't ask? I can not explain it. But, yes, I get three copies of every corporate e-mail.
I live out of my e-mail inbox. If that went away, there'd be little trace of my existence.
Oh, and Matt, that's really bizarre. Yes, I think the only thing that accomplishes is that it keeps the lumber/paper folks in business.
