It doesn't matter who it was against, 59 innocent people were murdered by another maniac. He apparently went off when he saw two gay men kissing on the street. I am not comfortable seeing that either but there is no reason to kill anyone over it. I didn't know about this until later today but my heart goes out to the families of these victims. What a sad state of affairs we are experiencing in this country.

Heart felt sympathy for all the dead, injured, and their families & friends.

In the last decade, it seems you read about these kinds of tragedies once every six months or so. They are becoming a common place event in the world, even the US. I wonder if this is how life is going to be? I have no idea what anyone or any nation can do to effectively stop them. Without going to a permanent state of Martial Law.

The FBI interviewed this guy 2 times in 2013 and 1 time in 2014 for his ties to radical Islam and they closed the case because they didn't believe that his connections were clear enough. The individual who he was in contact with eventually was released from prison and ended up becoming a suicide bomber. They faulted the people in San Bernadino for not coming forward about the husband and wife team, but as you can see even when someone does come forward they still don't do a proper investigation on these people.

There was a potential big-time threat stopped yesterday, before the Gay Pride parade in West Hollywood. Someone reported suspicious activity to the Santa Monica police. When they investigated, they found a cache of weapons and ammo. Plus, materials which could be used to make bombs in the suspect's car.

However, since this disaster was averted it didn't garner as much news time as the Orlando shootings.

I can understand why they had to close the case on the shooter. But when he bought weapons, that should have rang bells at the FBI immediately.

I agree, they had nothing on him, but the case should have remained active to detect and further suspicious activity.

On the potential California shooter, it turns out he himself is gay and a gun collector. He was just going to join the festivities. He is a member of some gay gun group called "pink pistols".

There are no laws that would cause that bell to ring, a bill to do just that was voted down in the house not so many months ago.

Wonder what he was going to do with the explosive materials? Make "pink bombs?"

I prefer to keep the thread from moving to politics so i won't be more specific.
This sad event certainly has shown the downright, disgusting, mean side of some "righteous" folks.

I hope for the families of the lost that there are no surprises on the list of victims.
I am by no means judging the innocent folks who have suffered in this tragedy.
But for some, It would be a shocking reality to come to grips with alone or will be a tough added new burden on the survivors.

There does not have to be a law for this. If you have been questioned about making threats etc as this person was, the FBI could electronically flag your name and have it matched to background checks for gun purchases. If you bought a gun, they could perform other investigative procedures to determine if you planned to use it for nefarious purposes. Doing so in this case could have saved lives.
