Default Thanksgiving Plans

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday! The summer is over, things at work slow down a bit, and the family all gets together. My in-laws join us from Myrtle Beach, my brother in law from Vermont, and my sons with their girlfriends. It's a great day to reflect and to be thankful for all that we have. How about you? What's your plans?

Thanksgiving. It's a day Rick is thankful for as I somehow manage to find my way back into the kitchen to cook.

Small gathering at our house. Just our son, daughter in law and grandchildren. I may even make it easier on myself and only cook a turkey breast. I just cooked one of those recently and it was a lot less work than dealing with the whole turkey and very tasty. I can still make all the trimmings to go with it.

I have the day after Thanksgiving off, Rick doesn't. HMMMMM maybe if it's a warm day a little
may be in order.

We usually assemble at least one of the kids and ourselves and head down for a nice Thanksgiving buffet dinner at a local hotel. This is a time when they pull out all the beautiful silver, crystal, etc. and have gloved waiters at each table to assist those of us who need it. They also have the Baby Grand in the dining room with a fabulous pianist to serenade us throughout the meal. I love it and my kitchen is nice and clean when I get home.

Thursday AM driving to Houston to be with my daughter, son-in-law, and 4 month old grand son.

Also will be there early enough to see the Cowboys and on Friday the Aggies play the dark side from Austin.

Going to smoke one turkey and deep fry another.

The +1 and I will be at my parents' house in McLean for the last Thanksgiving in it, so it will be a bit nostalgic. The family moved to that house in 1963 when we came back from a tour of duty in France. They are moving to a new assisted living place not far from the house next July.

My sis and her hubby from FL and my niece (sis's daughter) and her family from NC will be joining us. The +1 and I are cooking the turkey and dressing, and taking over a razzleberry pie. The niece is bringing collard greens from one of our fave BBQ places down south. Should be yummy all around.

I'd appreciate that a great deal. If you pack them in a cooler (I believe you have my address), we'll enjoy them the week after. I prepare a full breakfast, lunch and dinner almost 7 days a week. We rarely eat out, so on Thanksgiving its a real treat for me to not have to cook all day. I'm truly thankful for the opportunity to get out and not be responsible for the whole meal. I used to cook huge Thanksgiving dinners for all the kids, grandkids, etc. and I got a little weary of cooking all day long and then everybody would sack out and I'd be wiped out as well. This is much better for us since apparently the kids/grandkids aren't interested in having us over.

You always have an open invitation at our house. You'd have to do the dishes though

OHH, Whoopppeeee!! (Do we have an icon for sarcasm?) I've just been informed that we are going to Paduucky. For years I have been telling the wife, "NOTHING NORTH OF CHATTANOOGA BETWEEN HOLLOWEEN AND EASTER!!!"

Somehow we end up spending Thanksgiving or Christmas or both with big daughter and family. Two times in the last 15 years they have had enough vacation time left to go to Florida with us. The rest of the time I get drug to Kentucky. One of those times they actually had decent weather in Kentucky for Thanksgiving.

Don't get me wrong here. I get along fine with the kidz - even enjoy visiting with them. I even get out and play sporty car with Son-in-law and grand daughter. I just don't like being cold.

I can even deal with big daughter's Vegan menu. I sneak out and get some real food periodically.

Oh well. At least she doesn't drag me up to Iowa to visit all the in-laws.

(Rant mode off)
