Things our grandchildren won't know

Things that might go away in a few years (off the top of my head):
Boxing
Cigarette machines (One hopes)
Ice trays
MySpace
Cavendish bananas (the kind we are used to)
Spam (maybe)
Old fashions, side cars, rob roys, and a few other cocktails
Drum brakes
Necco wafers (Although they have shown remarkable staying power)
Mechanical slot machines
Polar bears (*sniff*)
Manual car windows (except in "classic" cars)
CRTs
Crisco shortening
Film cameras (except for hobbiests)
Lick 'em postage stamps
Incandescent light bulbs (except for special applications)
McDonald's counter workers Humans Need Not Apply

VHF/UHF. . . and the fact that there were only three TV networks, PBS, and everything else. . .

Lainey, you are right to be wary of ice makers. When the Napa fires hit last October, we had to evacuate for five days. The power was off and all the ice in our icemaker melted, ran down the front of the fridge and onto the floor. This was the new oak floor that we had redone during our home remodel less than a year earlier. It warped the floor terribly. We just had the kitchen, eating area and family room floors sanded and resealed a couple months ago. Thankfully insurance covered the entire cost with no questions asked.
If your power is off, empty your icemaker and turn off the valve.
