Default Thinking of Getting 1966 Sting Ray

I had been thinking lately that I would once again purchase an old Corvette. Recently, I drove a 1966 Sunflower Yellow Covette Sting Ray convertable. It had an automatic (Powerglide 2 speed), 327, 300 HP, factory AC and was pretty loaded for a car of that era. Wow, you don't realize how far technology has come until you have driven one of those cars. The S can drive circles around that car definately out performing it by a mile. What a difference 38 years make. I love technology, but I sure do love the past as well.

63-67 Vettes are classic and are the only years I would consider with a 67 BB convertible being primo

I happen to agree with you. Our S can run circles around most anything from the years past, but there is something special about old sportscars.

1965 Vette w/ a 427, 4.56 rear gears, a 4 spd, and high performance tires can run a 10.56 @ 131 so says Rocket Sr. (Glen Green convertible that he had in his 20s, we're rebuilding one now to match it.)

I just love the way you hang out with your new Vintage pals. Give my regards to Rocket Sr. and ask mom when we can come to dinner.

^ You need to be in touch with Valentine! Her hubby, Jim, owns a classic Corvette and can give you some good info if you need it. Although it sounds like you have owned one before...If you get one, we gotta see pics!!

Yes, we have a vintage '72 that my husband bought new. 454, 400+ hp, 4 speed, stingray (shark-style body), convertible -- red, of course, with white top and we have a hard top as well. The only problem that you may want to consider (besides the lack of technology) is that the big block corvettes traditionally overheat when driven fairly long distances (especially if you have to idle in traffic). You may want to consider replacing the radiator with something heavy duty and/or perhaps double fans on your cooling system. If you're just looking for an occasional play-toy, GREAT. If, however, you plan to drive it a great deal, you should go over to corvetteforums.com and discuss it with the guys on the board. They'll give you some ins/outs/advice, etc. or . . . pm me and I'll have +1 get in touch. He's had corvettes all the way back to '57. This is his fifth corvette, I believe.

Perk, his dad (Rocket Sr.) has two sitting in the garage already. He and Jim were having a good ol' time at the stop.
