"Don't take it personally. I am sure he's WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better then Doug Flutie ever was. "

IMHO, they were two of a kind.

Perhaps, but at least Flutie kept his arrogance in check and played where he could get a job.

hey I personally helped teach Flutie how to scramble.
He lived a few doors down from my wife back when we were dating.
They'd never bother to get out of the road as we came up the hill.
Eventually we learned not to slow down and he learned how to scramble.

^^ I agree, Tebow IMO was never a very good QB after college.

And Tebow's maudlin little public prayers on the field were always offensive to me. I think the Bible says to go into your closet and pray in secret, rather than demonstratively praying for all to see that 'God is on Your side'.

For visual prayer I like Albrecht Dürer's uncomplicated 'Betende Hände' much better.

You’re right about your observations – Tebow’s antics were too much.

Being from the Denver Metro area and exposed excessive media coverage regarding Tim Tebow’s persona, I must state he became a maudlin of religion and prayers only after media made an issue of it. From attending many of the Bronco’s games well before and after Tebow’s influence of the pre-game prayer circles and symbolic gestures, I can conclude much of the coverage and intensity was hype for media’s sensationalism and impact. Tebow was far more low key.

I liked Tebow, but I dislike our media sources – they’re in need of help and restraint.

You might be blaming the messenger and not the originator. Tebow started that nonsense WAY before he attempted to become a NFL QB. (Remember his statements and public prayer sessions just after leaving college?). I think his opinion of himself was way overblown and the media had nothing to do with that. Something about hiding your talents under a bushel seems to have escaped him.

I'm surprised the three of you think poorly of the public prayer. Compared to the touch down and sack celebrations of the rest of the players, I find a moment of thanks to be refreshing, regardless of my own beliefs.
and that moment of thanks doesn't require anything more than a short pause for reflection, not bringing out a podium and having a prayer meeting. Those who demonstrate their religion so openly are usually (note I said usually) the first to be frauds.
Now there are set requirements of proper prayer? I'll stop there so I don't send this thread to the politics forum.

Something about going into your closet to pray? However, there aren't too many closets on a football field, but that doesn't mean you have to demonstrate to everyone in a 20 mile radius how "religious" you are.

and here I thought it was 10 seconds of people in body armor hitting each other followed by 30 seconds of those same people patting each other on the rear-end.
