This whole politic segregation business started because people couldn't discuss politics without flamethrowing insults directed at politicians.
It was felt by all of us when our politics are attacked by insults, innuendo and unsubstantiated derogatory statements.

I'm easy, I'll go along with what you all decide. It would be an interesting experiment in terror however to see if we can maintain decorum in our political discussions without segregation. Of course that would entail respect of the ideas of others, issue oriented discussion and other phenomena. Most people in Vintage are capable of that.

The X Viper thread could have been closed, or even moved to the forum that deals with site issues. To some extent, I think the Vintage forum was used this past week. We became a little battle ground for general forum issues that belonged elsewhere. Those threads had been closed in other forums, so the combatants invaded our discussion to continue the debate. The S2KCA discussion was out of left field. I didn't mind the content, but the tone was nasty. I'm not against discussion of site issues here, but when the subject really belongs elsewhere on the board, the thread should be moved.
I have to agree with Bill here, but I also think we need to get this thread back to the subject - who is going to replace Bill as CO??? I'm sure that person will have views on how the forum should be organized. Let's put off a decision until then.

^^ :sigh: I read that thread this morning and I'm hard pressed to understand why why why that same old garbage must be rehashed. I agree with LB. We're free agents and we can be members wherever we wish and I've made my choices for my reasons. I choose to participate here where I find a group of people who are more sociable, intelligent and enjoyable. We all have different reasons for being here. Some are here to have some fun and escape the tedium of day to day unsavory situations. Some are here for purely social reasons and to discuss current events. It appears that we've been able thus far to do these things, so why not continue? As we become more familiar with each and know each other better, we tend to engage in more light banter. If you want more serious discussion, then get on with it. Someone or maybe even lots of folks will join in.

Is this the official mid-life crisis for Vintage? If I remember my sociology classes correctly, any time new members are added to a team there tends to be an uncomfortable adjustment period and "productivity" temporarily declines. Eventually people adjust and all is well. Unless the person cannot adjust to the team or the team cannot adjust to the person. In which case we send them to Canada.

With all the pissing contests going on, I feel that the most qualified CO candidates want nothing to do with the job. It's the same as the Presidency. ( no knock on the 2 current CO's who do a stellar job!)

Nominations?

I'd nominate Mike Garrison if he'd do it.

As one of the biggest clowns on here, I have to keep it light just to keep sane most of the time. Because I believe this is a microcosm of the world, differing points of view and disagreements are inevitable. I love intelligent conversation, even if I can't participate , but every time I check out the "serious" conversations, I see someone getting offended, attacked, outraged, or generally pissed off no matter what the subject. And while everyone IS entitled to their opinion, I sense a lot of anger and hostility behind the exchanges sometimes and it's never pretty when those two rear their ugly heads.

When I see long-time members bickering and name calling, I get offended. When I see members taking their ball and going home never to post again, I take it to heart and feel hurt. Lately, some parts of Vintage have become like a family feud and it seems that we all get on each other's nerves (sometimes with good reason; somtimes not). I don't know what we expect of the next CO but he/she will need to be someone who knows and respects all of us with all our faults and differences AND someone with a very good sense of humor.

It always makes me feel very hurt when I see the people I care about deeply getting their feelings hurt or stomping away from the board, some to never return. As much as I love my car and love driving my car, I'm not here just because of the car. I am here because of you and you and you and you, the members. Some of us have owned our cars for several years (and some of us have worn one out and moved on to a second one). I have no illusions about the reasons why I chose a second S. It was because I enjoy the ownership of the car and the ownership of many fine and wonderful people from all over the US and Canada. I do not need to discuss over and over again the need to check the oil, changing fluids, TSBs, to zaino or not to zaino anymore. We've been through all that ad infinitum. You are my friends and I care deeply for you. +1 and I chatted all the way to Pennsy this past weekend about the unusual bond that exists between many of us. We think it is unique and special. I want to see photos of your children and grandchildren, see your gardening exploits, learn about your hobbies, explore new technology because of you and with you. I want to cry with you when you're sad or ill and rejoice with you when you're happy. I want to learn from you and perhaps you can learn from me. Because I joined this club I just had to get a gps, a new digicam, a laptop, Betty Boop fuzzy dice , listen to "wiggle" music and more. Perhaps I'd have done those things without you, but because of you I enjoyed them more. I'd have never driven Rt. 26 in Ohio (5 times), seen the battlefield at Gettysburg, eaten Mystic Pizza, driven on the track at Watkins Glen, explored the beautiful countryside around Hagerstown, Md., and Pittsburg, PA and more. Let's all have a big group hug, cast aside any differences and start this day anew.

I'm not sure Mike is a member of Vintage flts. He does not have the badge, but that is not conclusive evidence.

In any event, this really should be a self nominating process. Calling out the names of others is not going to get us anywhere if the person isn't interested and qualified for the post. Read Val's post above. Wouldn't she make a perfect CO? But she doesn't want the job and neither do a lot of other folks.

Carmen's point is accurate. A lot of the best candidates are scared off of the job.

ATTENTION PEOPLE OF VINTAGE

I have the name of a member for your consideration as your next co-CO. His name is:

S1997

But we can call him Jim. Jim has stepped up and expressed a willingness to be your next co-CO. As most of you know, Jim has demonstrated a nearly unparalleled level of commitment to our community. He drives to our big meets from his home in Texas. He is an active and thoughtful participant on this board. He knows how to play, and he knows how to be serious.

I support Jim's candidacy. I think he will make a fine CO and I am pleased that he will add regional diversity to our leadership. I leave it to Jim to tell you more about himself and his interest in the position.

There remains other issues to be resolved. Not the least of these is how to deal withthe Politics sub-forum going forward. I have received PMs with some suggestions. The opinions I have received by PM are as diverse as the opinions on this board. Let us keep the discussion going in a civil way and see where this takes us.

Leaving the fanfare aside, if any others are interested in the position let me know.
