Is it time for a new national anthem?
This is not meant to be political. Please don't turn this into a political debate that will be banished to the Politics form. It is about the national anthem, not about the politics.
There was an interesting op-ed piece on MSN today about this topic. I've thought about it a lot over the years, but this op-ed piece once again reminded me of the question.

This is an interesting question that has been debated for quite some time. Should we have a new national anthem? The Star Spangled Banner is about a battle, a war and not necessarily about our nation. Moreover, it is very difficult to sing. Could it be time for a change?
Some of the candidates could be (among others):
"America the Beautiful" written by Katherine Le Bates.

None of these songs are about war. All of them talk about the glory and beauty of the United States of America. All of them capture the spirit and greatness of America more than the "Star Spangled Banner" in my opinion. These songs mention liberty, freedom, beauty, and the topics that we as Americans believe in.
My first choice would be "America the Beautiful" with "This Land Is Your Land" and "Power And Glory" a close second and third.
How do you feel about this? Would you like to see our national anthem changed?

No way dude, so don't even propose it. The National Anthem was written by Francis Scott Key when the Brits were shelling Fort McHenry in Baltimore and it depicted the courage of the Americans against overwhelming odds. It stays and you go to hell.
