Default Tinkering

One of the pleasures of owning a sports car is tinkering. Rolling up your sleeves on a warm Saturday afternoon and adjusting the cable that didn

I've never even risen to the level of tinkerer, Rob....but applaud those of you who have.

At our Del Val mod day last Saturday, I was amazed.....as I usually am....at how much many of the pre-pre-vintage know about our cars....wish I had (or made) the time to do some of it

You really spin these tales very well....maybe you should have been a writer for AutoWeek or whatever

I'm not a tinkerer, but certainly have a great appreciation for those who are!! I do the minimum maintenance stuff, like checking the oil, coolant and tire pressure, but leave it to my mechanic to do whatever tinkering is needed beyond that.

I won't bother to defend the MG engineers again. I've raised the issues before and no one believes me anyway.

I've tinkered with my S 2000 more than with any other new car I've ever owned. Just like with the old sports cars, all the "improvements" also have their draw backs. The exhaust improves performance and handling, but is a little too loud and impossible to keep from rattling. The sway bar helps the handling, but makes little rattles of its own. The trailer hitch was a blast to install. I learned how to remove the bumper cover, and I had to build a trailer too. But all of that rattles too when it is installed.

Rob, have you changed the tranny fluid and diff fluid yet??? Have you changed the brake and clutch fluid? Have you adjusted the throttle cable? Have you inspected the accessory belt? Have you re-torqued your subframe bolts???? Get to work pal, there's tinkering to do!

Bill - You installed a hitch on your S? Pics with your trailer please.

Sorry to steal the thread.
Seemed better than starting a thread "Anyone put a trailer hitch on your S"

Thanks Deb. That is the same trailer kit as the one I purchased. My finished product looks different as I stained/urythaned the plywood rather than paint it and I built the tire cradle on top of a full plywood deck rather than hang the tires between the frame rails.

I am unable to upload photos to this site. I don't know why. It is very frustrating.

I too love to tinker, tinker on the S, tinker on the CRX-Si and tinker on the Nighthawk 650. Problem is, now that I bought a house I'm tinkering on that more than anything else... and the days of having any freetime at all seem to have gone away.

I have a 3-day driving school coming up and I have no idea when I'm going to find the time to do all the things I need to do th the S before I have to go.

Ralper, nice little story, spending the day in dirty cloths in the garage has always been one of my favorite things to do.
