Default Tire replacement

So,

Patricia and I were riding down the freeway enjoying life, top down. I made a lane change and the car felt a little squirrley. I did it again to check it out and the right rear tire blew out.

I have 7500 very easy miles on the car. Should I replace both rears, or just the one?

If I need to change both, what would you recommend for a replacement?

Thanks,

Willinathen

ok my opinion and a $1.50 will get you a coffee....
but I would replace both.
after 7500 miles you've chewed through probably half of the tread.
if you swap one of them you will be perpetually out of sync.

with Jerry always replace them in pairs, and as Jerry said at 7500 miles your other tire is more than half worn. On avg if you get 12000 miles from the rears you have beaten the odds.

We with the AP2 get more wear with our tires than those of you with AP1.....FTR, we got 17K out of our first sets of rears...

But, the guys probably know best about changing both tires.....

True Lainey, there are variances in wear. I just posted an avg and yes the AP1 is harder on rears. Another thing to think of is if you replace the pair now you can hold your good one as a full size spare. Some areas you cannot get a rear same day of you need it and it may be beneficial to have that spare especially if you mail order your tires. I keep a spare set of rears and fronts on hand for those reasons, not the best tread but good spares.

IMHO it depends on how hard you drive you S2000. If you have 7500 "easy" miles on the car I thing that you can get away with just changing one. But the key question in my mind is which model tire are you referring too? Are they S-02's or the AP-2 tire? If they are S-02's make certain that you get the Honda tire not the Porsche tire which is different. If you order them through a dealer make certain that they order it through TireRack and specify the Honda S-02 tire.

The recommendation is that you replace in pairs. I agree with that.

I always change in pairs. I would also stick with the same brand and size of tire that you currently have to keep the stagger (relative to the front tires) the same.

Nate - any idea what might have caused the blow out?

I agree you should replace both rears with the tires you have now. By the time you wear out another set it'll probably be time to replace all four and you can consider a different brand, size, etc. then.

If it were me I'd get an ailgnment too.

Mike,

After I took it off, I found a nail in it.. I'm thinking it got low and overheated.. I was doing about 75 just before it blew, then when I felt it I slowed down.. It probably blew at about 60. Fortunately, the wheel looks ok.

If I had been on a real road I might have noticed it sooner, but I was cruising in a straight line.

Nate
