The origins of our more traditional holidays can be traced back much further than that. The concept behind holidays, such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, Halloween, can be traced back to at least Celtic culture, and in all likelihood actually originated long before that.

That is a sobering thought, Guy, and it's true that the Pilgrims celebrated this holiday -- just thankful to be alive... We certainly know all about that, being in Massachusetts.

But Washington's (and then Lincoln's) proclamation pretty much rejoices in the nation, such as it was formed much later. I'll go with that.

Yes, sir. But the derivation of the American holiday "Thanksgiving" has been traced back to the early subjugations of indigenous peoples by that merry band of genocidal maniacs known as the Puritans, specifically the 1620s.

Actually, Guy, I was just referring to the fact that the Pilgrims were here in the Commonwealth (before it was such) and we here in MA are pretty close to all that.

Best wishes.

My personal belief is that George and Abe were pandering to the Religious Right when they wrote their proclaimations.

Colin

mmmmmmmm... prime rib!

Unfortunately I have no idea when I'll be able to travel for pleasure.

New job = mega travel

Last 3 weeks: Eugene 2x, Portland, Corvallis, Boise, Kalispell, Olympia, Lynnwood, Yakima, Union Gap and Monterey. Whew!

I'll have plenty of frequent flyer miles.

Hope you and Franceen and the rest of the HI gang are doing well
