Default Ugly Time

We just got several inches of fresh snow and ice and things still look pretty outside my window but you can't fool me......we are heading into Ugly Time.

My extensive research (which I am now making up) shows the second half of February is the least favorite time of year for us MI residents. Soon snow will gather in dirty piles and cars will still be covered by a dingy film of salt. When snow melts into dirty puddles, buried trash and dead animals are revealed along streets and in yards. Worse yet my dog will want back in after playing in the muddy sections of the yard. And then there's "cabin fever". Boredom so intense marriages crumble and friendships dissolve. There's nothing to do except taxes, which I've been putting off so I'll have something to do in the Ugly Time.

Of course enduring this worst part of the year makes us treasure the magical springtime all the more. But first I got do the damn taxes.

Those don't take me long...I fill out the form, put "see attached" everywhere, and give it to my accountant.

In the ugly dept, I drove the S yesterday and it was raining lightly, but not enough to wash the dirt off. Now it has black yucky dots all over it.

Ugly time...I like it!

It's pretty ugly here too. Dirty mounds of snow, dirty cars, dirty windows, sand piles in the streets.

Today I could take it no more. I spent $6.00 and took my car to the "robot car wash." I even got out of the car (before I pulled into the booth) and washed the wheels with the brush which was soaking in dirty water. All in all, the car looks a bit better. I hate dirty cars.

The taxes were done....yeah Turbo tax, and your Uncle Sam sent us back a few bucks, which I promptly gave to my town for a water bill and other taxes due.

The cat has cabin fever. She sleeps all day, half the evening and starts becoming vocal at 3:00 am lately.

Check my ticker though.......not my heart, but the ticker in my signature. Spring IS coming!

Hang in there, Dave.

Sheesh! I'm feeling like Patty must feel - driving home top down all week and getting a refund from both my Federal and state returns (thanks TurboTax).

Feel free to give me the finger as you feel necessary.

Ugly is right! I wanted to work on the car last night but couldn't get the garage door open. There is a 1/2" layer of ice on it and the door won't budge. Guess I'll have to wait for the sun to do its job.

I have thought about how people from the east or midwest come to California in the summer and think it's ugly because it's brown every where. So Cal does have a desert climate, afterall. Well, this time of year, it's very green. We've had lots of rain in the past four, or so, months, so the hillsides that will be brown are turning green and the yellow mustard plants are just beginning to add their color.

So, we have pretty green time now, while you have ugly time. In the summer, we'll have ugly brown when you have it green.

The winter weather in the Washington DC Metro area is one of the things that I dislike about this area. We rarely get "real" snow. Last night we got another "wintery mix" of rain, freezing rain, sleet and then finally a dusting of snow. It took me about fifteen minutes to get into the frozen driver's door this morning and then scrape the ice off all of the windows before heading to work.
