The ultimate simplicity of the S2000...
It certainly has everything that's needed and then some. The power windows work exceptionally well. Everything is clean and functional, and in the right place. (Typical Honda) Amazingly, over in the S 2000 talk forum, someone is bemoaning the fact that the S is lacking the auto-down right side mirror for the dangerous task of reversing! I'm always confident that nothing will surprise me anymore. I am always wrong!
Well, simple is wonderful when you meet the definition of the designer's average. I could care less about things like the radio, clock, etc. but comfort is another matter. I would love an adjustable steering wheel. That's tough to do on my own. I already took care of the other items that bugged me. I raised the seat and cut-out half the door panel.
I have been "lusting" after an S2000 since before they were introduced into the U.S.. I feel that if I were one inche taller I would not fit well. As most of my height is in my legs and not my torso. With the seat all the way back, the car fits me perfectly! I really mean that it fits me perfectly! The perfect driving position. If I were one inch taller, I would not fit!
I'm always a little surprised by the reaction of many of my "vintage" friends who think I'm a bit "strange" because I don't go for a "land yacht" (town car, cadillac or some such mode of transportation), but the S2k is perfect for me. I feel that the car was built with me in mind. I love the simplicity and clean interior lines, the way the seat is designed, and I feel very secure when driving or riding in it. It goes without saying, the driving experience is unparalleled. We recently took a Town Car on a long driving trip and I felt like I was falling out of the thing during the entire ride -- (sea sick, maybe?). I also enjoy our Grand Cherokee for family outings -- it, too, seems to have a "fit" that feels nice. I guess there are some of us for whom luxury type cars are just not our thing.
First, I fell in love with the car because of it's "curb appeal"; that long torpedo look from the front reminded me of that old XKE that I always wanted. Hondas have always been simple and easy to maintain, that's why they hold up so well, I think.
Anyway, then when I took a test drive, it was settled, fit me like a glove, snapped my head back, and handled like a charm making me feel in full control. Gear shifting was too easy, like fingertip easy and it brought back memories because it had been years since I driven a REAL sport-car.
However, the thing that has me in the most trouble now is I find myself drifting off into another world when driving on straightaways because the feel of the steering wheel in my hand is downright sensuous and driving is such a pleasure now it's kinda like an out-of-body experience. I don't even get the sense of speed anymore until I glance at the speedometer and see that I'm doing 85 (which is fast for a law-abiding citizen like me(where's that sarcasm smiley?)). Is that weird (the other-world out-of body part)? Scary stuff!

For the first time since I joined this forum, our yellow light wasn't on. I felt so all alone but knowing you guys were out there enjoying the holiday while some of us held the work fort made me feel better. Think I need a life after Fall Colors!
