Yeah, guys, sorry. When a thread gets moved to the dumpster, you can't read it any longer. Debs and I have moved a few threads there recently.

My apologies for not clicking the right box so that it doesn't show.
Also, when a CO or mod MOVES a thread to another more appropriate forum (like Street Encounters ) , the ADMIN menu asks whether or not to leave a 'locator' thread on the original forum. That's what I usually do to avoid getting folks confused of PO'd

I was sure Karl Rove had the Haliburton topic squashed under dispensation of the Patriot Act. Thanks for the info.

We try to run a clean forum. Occasionally things go askew and we have to take action. Sometimes thread authors don't expect things to be taken badly, but rethink it and ask us to dumpster a thread.

Rob, I'll tactfully not answer your question and simply remain enigmatic, OK?

Not a problem. I understand.

Actually I am amazed at the low number of threads that have had to be closed and moved to the dumpster from the Vintage forum over the years. I think that speaks volumes about this group.

Yes ... I deleted all the incendiary material I had put in those threads due to paranoia... I figure that anything I write is not going to make a difference anyway ...

Can't the thread starter just delete a thread themselves by deleting their first post? It used to be that way - maybe the newer software doesn't do that any more?

I thought it still worked that way too.

I think it still does...so anyone who originates a thread and wants to delete it can try to delete his/her first post, or go down to the bottom of the page on the right and see if there are any options under "Moderation Options" to delete it. One or the other should work. Someone try a test one and let us know.

Hmm. Seems like there's a hint here for me.

But all I see on this reply page is the usual stuff. If I do the "Review complete topic" option at the bottom (launching a new window to the original thread), it does give a moderation option to close the thread, but that's it. And editing my original post doesn't provide anything else. (I suppose I could edit it down to nothing, but it's not obvious that a null post would delete the thread.)

Anyway, my original questions were answered, and I'm content, so I'll hijack my own thread:

Today's our last day of packing, and tomorrow, after the big truck gets loaded, we're hitting the road to Florida (shortly, I'll change my S2Ki info to indicate that). Among people here in NM, non-S2K affectionados all, there's universal skepticism about this road trip, but I'm getting stoked for it. I don't know if I'll have the energy to figure out the manual (non-cradle) camera connection I have to post pictures, but, then, it's Kansas and points east we're talking about here. Gee. Maybe we'll see some pigs--er, hogs.

Thanks for the info about those moved threads, HPH

Looks like the Delete option is not available if the post is a thread-starter.
