Default Upcoming Surgery

Friends,
I am scheduled to have bladder reconstruction surgery on November 17th. I chose this option over a waist bag because Beth and I feel that it offers the most freedom to me in the future. The procedure is eight hours and involves removal of my bladder and my prostate. They then hope to reconstruct a new bladder using part of my intestine. The doctor has performed this procedure over four hundred times and is confident of the results. His only concern is that because of my gastric bypass surgery ten years ago there may not be enough of usable intestine to use, in which case I will have to go to plan B and have a pouch attached to my waist. This I don’t make a decision on, the surgeons decide while I’m on the table. Recovery is 7 - 10 days in the hospital and three to five weeks at home.
While in recovery my adopted son Hannibal will keep everyone up to date. I want to thank you all in advance; it's a blessing to know that I have so many good friends.

Have you looked into Tegion? I don't know if this is in any way an option, but I have been hearing about this for a couple of years.

Good Luck, and hoping to see you at SF.

Thanks for the update, Maury! I wish you the best, regardless of the outcome. At least there are options for you.

This is still in the clinical testing stage and there is not a doctor in my area that has performed this yet. Thanks for the suggestion, very much appreciated.

Maury:

Good luck with the "body-mod" surgery, and I wish you a speedy recovery. Thank God for modern medical science which keeps us peeps going.

Hope you're back home by Thanksgiving.

Good luck, Maury. Hope you have enough guts and that everything goes as smooth as poop through a goose. Glad you have nominated Hannibal to keep us posted while you are looped out on the good drugs and otherwise indisposed. Know that we are all thinking of you and hoping for a successful outcome.
