Default The Vacation Thread 2004

I love vacations....a change of scenery, different language & customs, etc. A lot of Americans love to travel...and vintage folks do too. Remember Scott Nelson's travel thread? And ralper's Motoring thread?

The travel season has really started, so I thought it would be a good idea to trade some suggestions

Kathy and I are about to depart....in a few days....on the longest 'away from home' trip (>3 weeks) since 1971 I plan to use this thread to post some 'comments from the road'....as we log-in from various Internet Cafes along our route.

How about you? Do you like to travel for vacation, or would you rather just 'relax by the pool' ?

I travel a lot for business, but it is one night here, have a meeting, run off to the airport, get in at 10 o'clock, try to find something to eat, and start all over again the next day. So when we go on vacation, we go one place and stay. Went to Kauai in March, when my daughter was on spring break - a little too early to go there - the weather was not the best.

Driving to Breckenridge, CO in July for another week - taking everyone (wife, daughter, dogs). We're going to stop in Moab, Utah for a couple of nights to visit Arches, etc.

We often like to just go to one place and stay put...we enjoy beach vacations, and prefer to fly if the destination is over 6-8 hours away.......BUT, now that we have the "S" we are thinking of a road trip to Myrtle Beach in the fall.

We're probably going to Virginia Beach for a week this summer. Liz's sister lives there and we haven't been there in about 15 years. They've been coming here since my oldest was born. My kids are looking forward to the visit and to Busch Gardens.

For the last few years we've been trying to go to someplace different every year, just to see what there is to see. We too will drive if its a few hours (Virginia Beach is about the limit) but fly if it is more.

Jerry, where are you going? I thought you were going to Europe.

my girlfriend and I just today booked a week-long cruise in the E. Caribbean on the Princess cruise lines "Star Princess"... leaving on Jan 9th, 2005. we figure we'd rather enjoy Ca. in the summer and escape to the Carib in the winter when it's overcast here. (also, more time to save up the $) we got ourselves a nice balcony room on a highly rated boat and cruise line. this'll be our first cruise and we are excited.

^ Cruises are great. I've been on about five of them. I'll be in Va Beach June 18-20 for a Mid-A event. Staying at a nice B&B there. Will visit my relatives there, too.

No other major summer plans yet. Just spend as much time at the pool and driving as possible!
