dlq04,

I bought a Casio Exilim 7.2 megapixel from Costco for $399. AWESOME. I'm taking LOTS of baby pictures, and it allows one minute movie clips as well.

Pro's
--super small
--2 1/2" LCD screen on back (BIG)
--boots up in less than 5 seconds
--7.2 megapixel for under $400
--takes about 225 shots per battery charge
--last, REALLY EASY TO USE
--movie clips start five seconds before you push start (no missed shots)

Con's

--still looking...

I can't say enough about this camera. If you have a Costco close, go in a check it out.

dlq,

From what I've seen, weight and ZOOM are mutually exclusive. The neato SLR body digital cameras can fit all the custom lenses that you want, but at the expense of size. If you want it to fit in your pocket, think again.

So what's it gonna be?

Well I confess, I have not graduated up to moving images, I'm still playing around with fixed ones.

I can only say of all the photo equipment I have ever owned, it is my Canon stuff that has always been the most dependable.

Good luck shopping!

For me I suggest you go to a high-end camera store and talk to people who know the product and can demo several models right in front of you. Find the one you like best and then go buy on-line. Google will find you several discount shopping services such as PriceGrabber.com, and then buy at your lowest cost. Just be sure the selling vendor states New not used, Full US Warrentee, and have some type of return policy.

Doug, I am not looking for video............. I know I should have started my own thread to avoid this confusion.

EDIT: I just did, so this topic can remain on video cameras.
