Dean is a 4 now and still strengthening, headed for Jamaica by early afternoon tomorrow (by which time it could be a 5).

That particular Island in the Sun is in for it. HPH

I see Dean stopped by St. Lucia and made a bit of a mess. I liked St. Lucia, it was one of the prettiest Caribbean Islands we have seen. Not, nice, Dean.

I'm cheering for Dean. Haven't had a famous Dean since Dean Martin died.
Go Dean.

Well, we are getting nervous over here on the Gulf rim. Who knows what a raging Dean will be up to by Tuesday! Morris, I think I'd rather have the crooner back!

Jamaica may alter the forecast track for Dean, but whether it pulls the storm north or pushes it south (or not) remains to be seen. Unless the forward speed slows, there should be information about this tomorrow evening (in the 8pm or 11pm EDT advisories).

Then it will be a little easier to see what the effects of the Yucatan Peninsula are likely to be: if the current track is pulled south, the land mass will tend to weaken it, perhaps saving NE Mexico and the Texas coast from getting whacked. If the current track is pushed north, though, well...

...wouldn't this be a good time for a trip to Durango? HPH

You'll probably know before the rest of your fine state does.

Well, thanks, Dean, for staying south. Still there are 500,000 people in the cone, -- so wishing them safety and good fortune...

I emailed our friends on Caye Caulker, Belize. They emailed back saying they were riding it out. Haven't heard anything else.

Hope they are OK.

^ They are fine .... lost some property due to beach erosion but that was all. They said it wasn't as bad as Keith in 2000.

Nice, nice people. If Matt and I ever disappear ... we'll be on Caye Caulker.
