Price of beer just went up to $100 per cup.
BUT, if the knuckleheads can get past the first playoff series. Win a World Series with Shohei leading the way --- it is worth it.
The sheer disappointment of the Dodgers choking, the last two years was palpable.

I don’t know much about him but 700 million dollars is an insane amount of money to pay any athlete. This is one reason why some people can’t afford to take their families to a ball game not to mention the outrageous food and drink prices. I watch all of my sports on TV.
I'm not sure that Ohtani will help the Dodgers win a championship, but without question he is probably worth every dollar in terms of the income he will generate for the Dodger organization (assuming he doesn't get injured and doesn't burn out). Certain ballplayers carry a mystique with them. When they play more people go to the games and more people view the games on tv. This translates into a lot of money for the franchise. Baseball, like all professional sports is a business first and foremost.
I have heard that he is only going to receive $60 million a year in order to keep the Dodger's total salary down. Baseball doesn't currently have a salary cap, but I suspect that the owners feel that there is one coming. Ohtani is now 29 years old. If it's true that he is getting $60 million per year his $700 million salary will last for almost 12 years. I suppose that the Dodgers will be paying him long after he's finished playing.
If he turns out not to be the superman he's supposed to be, or if he burns out, the Dodgers will have a very hard time unloading him and his salary. $700,000,000 is a lot of money to pay a ballplayer.
