What does this mean?
Thanks all, guess I took this phrase too literial. But announcers seem to always use it for football and basketball so I figured there had to be more to it.
On a related topic, I tried to think of the last car that actually had a radio dial. Electronic tuning seemed to pop up in the early 1980s so I'm guessing that a lower-line car from that era would be one of the last ones. A friend had a mid-80s chevy citation that had an actual dial, that's probably the last one I can remember. But I think that dial actually was oriented up and down. Now that would have really sent me off the edge in conjuction with this phrase.

It's a joke, 8 ball. The announcer is just giving you his point of view from his vantage point. When you listen to a game on the radio, don't you picture each team moving in a certain direction?
By the way, left side of the radio dial is the low frequencies.
Oddly enough, my wife and I were sitting in the S in a parking lot on a Sunday and we were listening to the beginning of the Browns game. I asked "well which way are they going?" The announcer told me within 20 seconds.
