Default What Does Music Mean In Your Life?

When I was younger, I used to listen to contemporary rock music for hours. The lyrics were a big part of my life. I found them enlightening, inspirational, and educational. They really touched a nerve. Now that I've had my own personal year-from-hell, I find myself finding meaning in a lot of the music I listen to (contemporary teen angst rock ). I hear some of the lyrics and think, "wow, that REALLY sounds like my life". Does anyone else here have this connection with music?

I listen to music but I go for the bass sound more than the words. Half of my stuff is old, like Supertramp, Breakfast in America. I choose depending on my mood too. I have a bunch of intsrumental only stuff, like Cusco and Craig Chaquico. When I do weights, I like my daughters old Smashmouth. I also like Blue Man Group.

What groups/artists are you listening to Ohio?

I've heard some good Offspring but don't know about the others. My son never listens to music. He's into Animee and his computer web site. I don't know what my daughter listens to but when I get in the truck she's driving it sounds like crappy rappish/soul music. Maybe you could introduce me to your favorites at the Spring Fling. Doesn't Granny have some fun music too, I saw a mention of?

The music that I listen to is much different than yours, old r&B, doowop, folk, folk rock, blues, 30s 40s and 50s pop and classical, but the feeling is exactly the same.

There are of course songs that I associate with certain times in my life and relate to for that reason. But I don't have the same connection between the lyrics themselves and my life that you do. I just like to listen and sing along. Or cry, or whatever...

After the last line posted.... the rest are just second place.....tied.

2) Jazz Fusion....Stanley Clark, Billy Cobham, Brand X...the list goes on....
2) New Stuff 311
Korn
Smashmouth
Red Hot Chili Peppers......(give it away now)...a classic in my book
311
Sublime
Lots of other stuff...I could go on and on....
2) Country......The new stuff irratates me.....I love Bluegrass, old Dwight Yoakum, Johnny Cash et al.
2) Prog Rock...a whole nother venue of music....Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd etc.......
2) Classical......meaning Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Haydn.....early classical...in my car right now I have 2 Mozart operas, and a Shubert piano concerto, along with a 311 cd, and Sublime, and a healthy dose of the Grateful Dead!!!
