Silly you. You are not taking her to LeMans. You are taking her to Paris the city of love, with a short 24-hour stop over at neat city just down the road.

Without knowing where you have traveled to in the past makes this a bit more difficult. Knowing that you live in Michigan you could always travel to South America in July where it will be winter.

The first two thoughts that popped into my head where:

The Hawaiian Islands. In my opinion one needs to experience the Big Island of Hawaii at least once. Eleven of the worlds thirteen climates exist on that one island. If the volcano is very active it (IMHO) is one of the most awesome sights that we have ever seen. On one of our trips we got lucky and it was flowing at 980,000 cubic yards a day.

The Big Island is also the best place on earth for astronomical observation. More stars than you and Allen have ever seen. It does not get much more romantic than that.

In my opinion one needs to experience at LEAST two of the islands. If you want to see Waikiki and you can afford it stay at either the Royal Hawaiian or the Moana Surfrider hotel. But, I have an alternative plan which you can PM me for. It is one of the best values on Oahu.

I have been very fortunate to have visited the Aloha State twenty-two times for business / vacations over the years. In my opinion in order I would suggest the islands in this order:

The Big Island (Hawaii)
Kauai
Maui
Oahu
Molokai

On the other hand if you both want to be really pampered and experience service that is unlike anything we have ever experienced before I would highly recommend a cruise on the
Yachts of Seabourn It will be a cruise that you will NEVER forget.

So many options! Do you want to stay in the U.S.? And how long a trip are you considering? Driving or flying? The +1 and I take some kind of trip every year in Mar, to get away from the cold and celebrate our "anniversary". July is a big vacation month and many places are crowded. I would not find that so enjoyable. You may want to consider somewhere that is "off season". We are headed to Boston in July this year for a Change of Command aboard the USS Constitution. Recently, we've gone to Savannah and Bermuda, and are going to Charleston (SC) in Mar ( Val!). What you are interested in? The +1 likes history, so we combine pleasure with historical tours, preferably walking tours. Charleston and Boston will certainly provide those. Have fun, whatever you decide.

I am a big fan of San Francisco and the North Bay area. Wine country is great. If you drove you could go to the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Rte. 550, well you get that picture.

BTW, CONGRATS!!!!!!! We will have our 37th in July.

Why wouldn't July be a good time to drive down the west coast? Would you rather come in February when you would be using your wipers all the time? May and June would be better, but July should still be great. And please stop by the wine country and spend a few bucks. Our economy here could use your cash.

Morris, someone told us that the traffic was horrific in July. As to your economy you should try Michigan, we are still laying people off.

I thought about Bermuda overnight but I think it would be too British for us.
Hawaii is worth pondering. Alan has been to the big island on a business trip but you can't really call that seeing the place.

Anyone been to St Petersburg, Russia?

Florence, Italy has also been talked about.

We have been to Maui three times, the last time for our 30th anniversary. We loved it and keep discovering new places. Our only regret was staying only one week. It's a long day of travel there from the East.

Congrats to you.
