Default Whiskey. What's good around $60?

Okay you experienced whiskey drinkers, help me out please, My son is 30 years-old today. He's having a party at his house on Saturday and all he wants is his friends' presence or, if you insist, some good whiskey or bourbon. When I asked him what that meant he said it costs more than $35 a bottle. Right. So, advice and opinions please. I'm not spending more than $65 but have no clue what's good. I just browsed the Costco aisle. I wondered if this was good.

Here's recent thread for you to look at...lots of ideas in there. Not just bourbon. I'm asking the +1 again about it.

I see Redbreast 12 Yr Old Irish Whiskey for about $65. I know the +1 just bought some. Different from the usual bourbon, scotch, rye.

If it were me, I would ask him what he wants rather than guessing. Everyone's tastes are different. For example, I am not a fan of Crown Royal but have friends who are. Paying more does not makes it better.

This is the one the +1 recommended. What a coincidence!

The +1 brought back a bottle of French whiskey - Bellvoye Triple Malt. Hasn't tried it yet.

He doesn't know, yet. He wants to find out without having to buy it.

I'm sure he will like whatever you get, and if not, his friends will! And his tastes will evolve over time anyway.
