Whitey Bulger "Whacked" in prison
Today's news informs us that mob boss "Whitey Bulger" has been killed in prison, very shortly after a transfer to a new facility. Even if you don't know exactly what criminal offenses were committed by Bulger, I think just about everyone in MA is aware of his name. There was not much grief expressed by family members of one of his victims. Can't say I'm surprised by that.

He was a bad one...guess somebody had a score to settle, but it seems in prison it doesn't take much.
EDIT - I see it was a Mafia hit. Guess they were waiting for him.

I didn't see that, Deb. Though someone surely knew what was going on as he was just transferred. Someone was waiting for him, and had whatever they needed to kill him.
I'm sure there will be much more on our local news. At lunchtime they kept showing the same footage of him over and over making his way to a vehicle in his orange jumpsuit after his capture.

Looks like it was three guys who whacked him with a lock inside a sock. Then gouged his eyes out. Yikes...

Good old whitey.
back in the early seventies I wen to high school in Framingham MA which is about 20 miles west of Boston.
One of whiitey's associates also lived not far away and he got a phone call during his 5 year old sons birthday party.
He said I have to run a quick errand and excused himself.
When he got to his car, a few 'gentlemen stepped from the bushes and dumped a few hundred rounds into him.
They then jumped into a car and sped off. The car was found in a shopping center about half a mile away.
It was attributed to Whitey as he was consolidating control of the Winter Hill gang.
yep, real nice fellah.
Of course the good brother Billy Bulger was Lead of the Mass Senate for many years
before he worked himself into a nice high salary wage for 3 years running the state college and university system.
That 3 years was reflected over the entirety of service to the state.
I bumped into Billy one night in the next urinal at the symphony, I was tempted to ask about his brother...
