Default Whose selling names

For the past two weeks I have been receiving daily email from Woot.com. This is a company that has daily specials for so called cheap prices. I have not heard of this site before. Today I received another email except this time it said - Dear Jumpy Guy - I don't use this name anywhere except here on this forum. So my question is how did they get this information and who else has my name? Anybody else experience this?

Not me, about experiencing this. Are you on facebook? Maybe it's linked to that, if you are.

Not here either.

But, that has been one of my pet peeves for years. That is, that many people just forward E-mails without stripping out all of the E-mail addresses from the previous recipients thus allowing "spammers" to build their address books.

Nor here.

I send emails that go to more than one person as "blind carbon copies" so that the addresses cannot be stripped out by spammers.

Actually, this crap precedes the Internet. Years ago, my wife filled out a warranty card using the cat's name. The junk mail proliferated: pre-approved credit card offers, calls from telemarketers, etc. Some years later the cat died. Subsequently, I received a call for "Charmin"; I replied that she was deceased. There was an awkward silence, followed by "I'm sorry for your loss."

To which I replied, "Oh, lighten up. It's just a cat. You called for my dead cat. How do you feel?"

I have no use whatsoever for telemarketers.
