Muscle is expensive to maintain. It takes a lot of resources for the body to keep it up. So nature has designed us to only maintain what we actually use, in order to be efficient.

That worked great when we were evolving, and still works pretty well for people who have an active lifestyle. Those of us who mostly sit in front of the computer, though, don't actually need all that muscle tone for what we spend most of our time doing. So we lose it.

Every winter I put on 10-15 lbs. I still go to the gym and do most of the stuff I normally do, it's just that my body puts the layer of fat on. I can't explain it and can't keep it from happening.
I can explain it. You eat too much. Same thing happens to me.

Same problem here. It's harder and harder to remain consistent when it comes to exercise, especially this time of the year.

Must do an S drive on New Years Day!
Please do that for me

Sorry to hear the aches and pains are getting you down. Sounds like a good excuse to ask Jerry to give you a massage

I've been walking again the last few days. I've been really lazy since I moved! It does feel like starting over again. I'm only doing one loop of my block, about 15 minutes and I was out of breath on the hill part. Hoping to work up to 2 loops and then maybe 3.

I'm not sure a new years day drive will work out since snow is forecast wednesday night but since almost everything has melted tomorrow is looking good for a spin.

Bike riding is really nice to the body, and you get to cover even more area so you take in more scenery. Really depends on if you have some safe roads away from where you live, but even in less bike-friendly areas you can hook up with a group ride and have relative safety.
I've always been very active, but the weight is slowly sneaking on making running harder on the body and race times suffer. I have plans for this year though...
Yeah, bike riding is fun, too. Doesn't quite hit the spot running did for me. I haven't tried riding since my knee got worse. I do have a good bike and head light and tail light. My normal routine is to hit the elliptical 3 days a week and my weight machine twice a week. Slacked off for the last couple weeks. Back home tomorrow. New start.

Tomorrow, I go back to better eating....until New Year's Eve.

Actually, I'm almost tired of eating too much food and bad food. I should throw away the Hershey's kisses that are on a desk in the living room, but I won't.

I'll just try to counter them with some time on the treadmill.

That's funny, I'll counter a pint of ice cream with some vegetables or fruit. I really have no self control when it comes to ice cream, but I have always been able to increase my exercise/training time...the days are becoming too short, and I'm going to actually have to learn new eating habits.

I will do that too. Eat bad at lunch, better choices at dinner, not today though.
