Default This Will Touch You

I got choked up over this one. Just a newspaper article and see what happened. A bit long but well worth it. To think there are still places like this in our country.

"Killed in action the week before, the body of John C. Beale was returned to Falcon Field in Peachtree City, Georgia, just south of Atlanta, on June 11, 2009. The Henry County Police Department escorted the procession to the funeral home in McDonough, Georgia. A simple notice in local papers indicated the road route to be taken and the approximate time.

This was filmed during the procession by a State Trooper."

I watched the entire procession. A beautiful tribute and very heartwarming.

It seems whole towns turned out for that procession.

I was greatly moved, and yet disturbed, because as advanced a society as we claim to be, and as smart as we are in the sciences, we (and our foreign neighbors) still persist on settling our disputes by using armed force.

When will we ever learn?

Would you believe FOUR towns + a couple of unincorporated communities?

I found this one exceptionally moving - probably because I am familiar with 2/3 of the 36 mile route. I live less than 3 miles from the Cannon-Cleveland Funeral home.

^^ I think it was particularly moving to me because of my stepson's being in the middle east right now, my brother just having returned for a brief time from there and my daughter's bf in Air force training currently . . . and because I am a down home hick daughter of the south.

Thanks for posting this, RC-Ryder.

Today I watched the final stage of the Tour de France, and thousands lined the streets to watch the finale of a bike race. Watching this video, I was humbled to see the streets lined with Americans paying tribute to one of our fallen soldiers. What a lesson in priorities.

I have a son active in the Military, and this was especially meaningful to me.

Thanks,
--Jerry

It's easy to be humbled by such level of human sincerity. My son is off to Afghanstan in 4 weeks.
