Default Windshield Tape Removal

(Jumpy Guy Suggested I post this on Vintage as well as the Allegheny Club)

Hey guys and gals,

Last night my buddy Jimmy (some of you met him at SF 2010) convinced me to remove the windshield tape from my S2K. I drove over and helped him change his wife's brakes and then we got to work on the S.

I have posted the full details with photos over on the correct topic thread but I wanted something a little bit more visible for the Allegheny club to see. Feel free to check the pics and the play by play out at:

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showt...5&hl=tape&st=75

In the meantime if you have any questions don't hesitate to hit me up.

I did this a number of years back. It's good to have a can of Xenit to remove the glue "boogers".

I removed the windshield tape on both of my S's. It came off cleanly on the '04, but I found (too late ) that the paint was bad along the top of the frame on my '06. I had a body shop touch it up, but now I wish I hadn't removed it...especially if I get a hardtop someday. Oh well, at least all of the MY '08-'09's don't have tape either.

Just a personal opinion but I think it looks even better stripped of the tape when you have a hard top. I'd rate the looks as:

1. Stunning when the top is down and the tape is off.
2. Pretty solid when the Hardtop is on with the tape off.

100,000,000. So-So when the tape is off and the top is up.

It didn't bother me so much until I parked next to a red Mazda Miata and noticed that their windshield frames are painted too.

I remember years ago when people started to remove the tape. Seemed like in most cases the paint was fine, but there were some where the paint was scratched or dull (looked unfinished).

I don't mind it and decided not to chance it.

As S2KI Member 108,978 it is pretty cool to have member 11 PokS2k and 24 Zippy commenting on my work (as unoriginal and simple as it may be )

I hope I am still around posting in another 9 years!

Here's another older timers different point of view. I always thought it looked better black. I would have preferred it factory painted black over tape. But I find it has cleaner flowing lines in the original form.

PS- The clear side markers.... now that you should do, for the same reason above.
