Wow! Can this be true?
A German doctor refused permission to live permanently in Australia because his son has Down Syndrome, on Friday promised to fight the decision as an immigration row erupted over his future.
Australia denies visa
Jonas, any info on this?

I do know that Australia is very selective on their admissions. Burdens, either in medical costs (socialized medicine there - note the doctor's shortage they speak of), potential unemployment, criminal records, all have a tough time.
Those who pay the bills get to decide, I guess.
That's also why Virginija is keeping her Aussie citizenship. If we decide to move there for retirement (or sooner), it will be easy.
Yes, it's sad.

This is nothing new, as a matter of fact not letting the "mentally retarded or physically handicapped" have any sort of long term visa in many countries seems to have been the norm up until 10 or so years ago.
Australia has been the most strict that I know of tho. I don't know about today, but it used to be you couldn't even visit without a round trip ticket. Heaven forbid you plan an extended stay.
