Default Are you an Excel User?

I started with Lotus and use Excel everyday. Here's a video on basic and intermediate Excel shortcuts. It will improve your speed working with data. Some good shortcuts in here. I learned some I didn't know.

You suck at Excel

Like you I started with Lotus and moved to Excel. I don't use it enough, being retired, to sit through the hour show but the paste value seemed like a good tip.

I started with Megacalc, back in the mainframe days. Like you two, I progressed to Lotus 1-2-3, then to Excel. Not bragging, but when I was working, I was considered the Excel guru. (Pats self on back)
That said, I did sit through this entire video, and learned several things, especially about tables. Of course, I'll probably never use the knowledge again, however, I do track and graph my investment portfolio daily. (Lately, I a lot, though!)

Visicalc on the Apple II was my first spreadsheet adventure!

Then Lotus 123, then a bunch of versions of Excel.

Forgot Visicalc. Did that, too.

A lot of guidance in the tutorial. Much of it I'll never use, but there was some some very good instruction. Thanks!

I used VisiCalc the first time on my Atari 800. Wow, that was a long time ago.

VisiCalc
SuperCalc
Microsoft Multiplan
Lotus 1-2-3
Quattra Pro
Open Office Spreadsheet
Microsoft Excel

Lotus 1-2-3 was the worst, Quattra Pro the most fun, VisiCalc the slowest and Microsoft Excel the best. Actually, Open Office Spreadsheet isn't bad either and it's free.

When I first started using spreadsheets, back in VisiCalc and SuperCalc if you had a substantial spreadsheet and a large column or row of numbers linked by a formula if you changed a number you could actually watch the numbers change cell by cell.

Last week I attended and all day seminar in advanced Excel. Some of the things Excel can do are absolutely amazing. During lunch I had a discussion with the instructor. Both of us agreed that probably more than 85% of the people using Excel are using less than 15% of its functionality.

Hi my name is jerry and I'm a victim of spreadsheet abuse.
it started out easy you know. it was just simple formulas man, i was just trying to solve some simple stuff and do expense reports
then before I realized it I was doing multiple pages and then I started graphing with straight links.
when I started doing conditional coloring and pivot tables I knew I needed help.

so please for the love of god, quit before you get to vb scripting.

I'd almost agree.... I'd say that 90% of the people use less than 5% of the functionality.

I script quite a bit in vb when it suits my needs and have recently dipped into some of the {CSE} tools to meet some very specific needs.
